Pause!

Okay, okay, gotta get things under control here -___-

I need to finish/do the following.

-Fio animation (Almost done)
-THIS week's animation. (Haven't started)
-Animation tutorial. (Started)
-Image draw (Will see who won tomorrow)
-Make a better page or site for animations.
-3 week Extra low-res animation
- GIF/Sound versions of previous animations.

So, I'm hitting PAUSE. I'll take the vote for this week's animation, but I won't be working on weekly animations until I've caught up with everything. All the stretch goals were met from the beginning, and the whole sound thing slowed me down a lot.

So, I'm going to take a few weeks to finish all the stuff I need to finish in this order,
1. Fio animation
2. Extras
3. Extra animation
4. THIS week's animation

Once all that is done, I'll go back to my usual schedule. If I keep trying to play catch up the way I am now, the extras will never get done and weekly animations will always be pushed ahead.

Also, just to clarify again; Keep in mind that I'm not spending on all day on these. I'm still working on Noaika, so I can't really take time away from it to marathon everything and get it over with. Of course, this is exactly why these are paid on a per-work basis, as opposed to monthly.

Anyway, that's all for now. If only animations took as little time as that pause image -__-

    1. Yep, I'm of the same opinion. He's publicly stated that he needs to slow down his production. So what does he do? Devote x amount of hours in hardcore animation production to meet weekly criteria. More and more, I can see this taking over from his game dev. But, let's see how this wild ride ends.

    2. There is absolutely no way it doesn't take away from Noaika development. Even on a strict '2 hour a day' schedule, that's 2 more hours that could've been spent on Noaika. Or even outside the actual 2 hour frame, now he's devoting mental energy planning and thinking on weekly animations as opposed to the game most of us have already paid for.

But who knows. Maybe wasting that planning time on animations will prevent him from making up some new huge subsystem or total redesign and scrapping Noaika for the.. what? Third time?

Ky, your games are great. You need a Producer to keep you in line. THIS is what a Developer without a Producer looks like. And you all hate on production companies so much. :P

    3. Do you work 24/7? Do you even realise what you're talking about?

Do you prefer when publisher rush out unfinished games from devs? I don't.

For about a year, I absolutely cannot wait for Noaika. I am even more hyped for it after this update. Yet I think this this project is a great idea, and has a lot of potential once it becomes more polished. It helps support the game development. It gives him some experience for bigger projects. If Kyrieru needs someone, it's a PR person to give people updates that don't spoiled yet keep people satisfied.

    4. Your logics are utterly baseless. Next thing you'll tell me is that workers who take lunch breaks should be fired for not making progress in their facility if they decide to do a small doodle during their free time.
No scratch that, by what you've said so far you probably would agree to that so never mind about fairness and all that.

      Delete
    5. Well if I was an employer and the only proof that work has been done is an update from several months ago, I would be asking a lot of questions on weather he's still working on it.

      Delete
    6. Exactly. And I'm not talking about working 24\7, I never said that. But when he is "Punched in" according to whatever schedule he sets for himself, all these additional projects ARE effected Noika. Unless Ky is a wizard as I've long suspected, he is still working on a window of about 10 hours a day of potential production time. Shaving 2 of those off, and only 2, will add up FAST. And again, mental energy spent on these other side projects diverts from the main goal. It's called focus.

Ky lacks focus. The games are gold, and I'm excited for them. Call it salt if you like, or if it makes you feel better. But in the end, there's nobody keeping Ky on task and on schedule and that's why we're consistently and constantly veering off course and off schedule to the tune of countless delays and goal shifts.

Re: FrostedFireFly, yeah. If one of my workers was taking 2 hours out of an 8 hour day to doodle, they would not be working for me. Call it an idealogical difference.

    7. To the Anonymous above:

From what you're writing I'm not entirely sure you know about how software development works. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you do, but then, you should probably know that oftentimes, plans need to be changed. Noaika is not taking that long in game standards, if you consider it is being made by a single person.

Then, I am not entirely sure what exactly you are against. Is is Ky's attempts to make the game as good as possible before release? If so then I am afraid you lost me because I can certainly wait for something that even Kyrieru deems finished.

Lack of focus? AFAIK Kyrieru is not adding NEW stuff into the game apart from what was already decided. Once again, delays are not a sign of lack of focus.

If you are talking about this project and how it makes him lose time he could be spending on Noaika, consider these points. As much as you like to think, you are not his employer in traditional sense, else he could care less about showing the unfinished game to you (see early access and games there that usually suck). Many companies today allow their developers to work on different projects so they don't burn out, this is how Gmail in Google was born for example. Also, this project allows for all the stuff the 24/7 Anonymous up there already mentioned + give you some updates that help you while you wait. No updates = people complain. Updates = people complain because why are you doing stuff, you should be working on Noaika dammit.

Even if this project did really take time from development of Noaika, I would still support it. IDK, different points of view maybe, but for me it has so many benefits it is really a no-brainer. He is still working on it plus he is trying extra hard to give you something in the meantime.

Kyrieru, in the future I would seriously consider trying to support yourself without pre-orders and using things like this Patreon if possible.

    8. Where have you been the last year? The guy pretty much suffers from a Feature Creep Syndrome at this point. Noaika has been delayed because he added a shitload of stuff, he's not making the game as good as possible, he's trying to finish the overambitious mess he got himself into.

Now he's adding stuff for animations, and again, because he started to add things to something that was supposed to be simple he's delaying his work. The guy needs to learn to keep things simple, that's what focus is.

      Delete
    9. Well, I for one thought Noaika to be ambitious from the beginning. Yes, he could have made it simpler before taking on something more difficult, but then where exactly is the point when he can start trying something difficult? I am not as impatient as I am curious about it will go, and I trust in his common sense that if some feature proves too difficult he can simplify it. Sometimes you can't move forward without taking some risks. As much as I love them, I'd like to see something more than a straight-forward GOR platformer/metroidvania. Maybe we'd both agree that for more ambitious projects he should team up with somebody.

As for this project, it only got delayed because he got too many patrons sooner than he expected. No feature creep there.

      Delete
    10. "I'm going to add sound! and flash! and make a website for these!" Feature creep there.

Yeah, he took that risk with a small game that was restarted halfway through and is over 1 year in development really well didn't he? Your point is exactly why he shouldn't take these risks, big projects are for teams not for one person. Development hell starts when you take on overambitious projects and you don't know your limits.

If he wanted to make Noaika a big game he should've made Noaika 1 and then move to Noaika 2 with a team for all of those features and upgrades, or release the game and then make a expansion with time.

Its fine to take risks and be ambitious but I feel that he's making all of these dumb mistakes because there's no one that can tell him "that's a bad move" or "don't do it, go with what you have", after all he never shows anything.

      Delete
    11. Yeah, that was also one of the stretch goals that he thought won't be met right off and probably thought can be dealt with in a matter of several months or something.

I still think it is too soon to talk about development hell. Some challenges can be taken alone. I trust in Kyrieru's judgement. It's in his interest as well to not take ages on this game.

Gonna stop my arguing from now on.

Firstly, because I see that we mostly differ on matter of whether the cup is half full or half empty :P Just for reference, the writing style you used is what mostly made me want to argue with you in first place. I'd recommend to sound less forceful next time.

Secondly... Well because I can wait for and h-game. And my interests in how I can persuade other people for their own good that they can wait too are limited :D

      Delete
    12. I think it's just that we've never waited this long for one of his games. Thinking of some of his cancelled stuff, it makes me worry. What irks me a little is how some time (actually quite a while) ago, he was saying that he was having financial troubles. Then the pre-orders came around and he hasn't said anything since. I'm excited about what he's cooking up. But seeing that he's been putting things together for so long, the demo we played once upon a time may not even be an accurate representation of what awaits. It's bitter-sweet since I was really into the demo, but knowing Kyrieru, something new will probably be great.

      Wish he had some help.

  13. What is wrong with you? You set goals and tell everyone what they are, then you decide its not good enough and add on so much shit to them and delay things over and over.

You delay your games, you delay demos for your games, you delay tutorials til after your delayed games... now youre consistently delaying your little cash grab side project after just a couple weeks of sticking to a schedule.

You are a company, a business, you sell us products and now you even charge a premium. Yet you continue to do this each week, writing us a diary entry on how you couldnt stick to your goals this time.

You cant push a product by making it up as you go... Sound and working with flash? Have that discovered and sorted in the draft phase. Extra animations? You set it as a stretch goal, if you have any common sense you know it would be met (although i understand since you didnt mention anything furry or tumblr pandering you may have had your doubts, but even giving the OC furfags a glimmer of hope through requests will get their mom's credit card). You should have had some shit in reserve.

The way you handle yourself is just so frustrating... Ive followed you for like 2 years now and it feels like nothings happened. Ive supported you in comments before but it just keeps. on. happening.

    1. Dude, I almost started writing how exactly each of your points is off, but then it came to me I am not some kyrieru defense front, and surely the man can respond to you himself.

Just one little thing since you talk bout products. Software projects and creation of intelectual property (by a fucking one man team) is not like making toilet paper on a production line. Planning can be slightly off and you have to readjust your approach. He will not charge anyth ing extra, he just has to prepare for a project that quickly grew larger in scale than initially expected.

      Sorry for my english btw.

      Delete
    2. To say that you should always to stick to your plans is to say that plans are never wrong, which would be impossible.Yes, I am a business, and to me quality is more important than changes to plans. People won't be paying for anything until it's done, and when it's done it will be a better product than it would be had I tried to rigidly stick to the schedule instead.

Also, if we're talking game development, half the stuff you mentioned as delays were never promises to begin with, nor were they something people paid for. Noaika is the only thing people have paid for, and it never had a promised release date. If we're talking broken promises, I've done it twice; Once with the demo of an unnamed game, and once with the demo of Noaika. That's it. "goals" are just that, goals. They can be met, changed, or disregarded. With these animations I should have sorted some of it out before I started, yes, but I didn't, and delaying them now is the best way to ensure that there aren't further delays in the future.

      Delete
    3. Eh, the guy has always been like this, he always finds a way to shoot himself on the foot either by changing projects midway or letting it grow out of control by adding things. He's a perfectionist though so he handles quality well and the setting of his patreon is perfect for his way of giving priority to quality over quantity.

As for Noaika delays, I'd actually like his approach on quality if he didn't make a huge lockdown for 8+ months not showing anything, because at this point I only have his word that he's still "working on it" and tales of how awesome is going to be.

      Delete
    4. Even though I mentioned this before, I'll say it again.

I'm happy he is taking the time to do it the way he feels is right. I per-orderd and honestly I'm just happy supporting his artwork. He never said it would be finished right away and he even offered refunds to people that may feel it is not going fast enough.

As a newb indie game dev that has made a small game, I understand all the work and sweat that goes into even a small one stage game loaded with bugs.

That extra polish makes a huge difference.

      Delete
    5. At this point tho it might have been better to finish Noaika the way it was originally planned, then immediately start on Noaika 2 with all the big new changes & levels.

      Delete
    6. No question, I should have finished it as a shorter game first, and perhaps another one after it before starting something like this.

    7. You missed my point. You make blogs about how youre doing this and this, and everyone reacts to it positively and patiently wait for what you just described to them. 2 months later you give us an update and say it has been delayed because you added that and that. 2 weeks later you talk about something new youre doing... and it repeats.

A couple hours a day is plenty assuming I have that long to work on the animations to begin with. The entire point of my previous posts was that sound issue delayed things once, (Took away a lot of hours), and so that was time I didn't have to work on that week's animation, which means time I didn't have to work on this week's animation.

I'm stopping so I can make that time back before starting another week's animations.

  18. Kyrieru, you're a hot mess, as always. X'D
As soon as you announced these animations, I thought "this is going to last like two weeks before something magically gets in the way." Either I'm psychic, or you're very predictable, hahah.

Not that I'm complaining. The people complaining that their FREE STUFF is late are assholes, so don't mind them. Take your time, dood. Looking forward to seeing Noaika's new look, too, though I think you're crazy to push the resolution even higher, hahah! I think it'll pay off in the end for you, though, when it goes on sale. Nothing else on the market comes close to matching your work, in my humble (and correct) opinion.

Any chances of the scrapped Noaika stuff ever being released? Your pixel technique is rad as hell. I've been trying to learn from your stuff by screen-capping and stuff, but it's a pain in the ass compared to just having the gifs. Your weekly animations are great, but they don't teach much about low-resolution tech.

Anyway, thanks for everything as always. Don't let the comments get to you. You'll be vindicated when Noaika sells five times as much as Kurovadis did. Cheers. =)

    4. Well, I'd still be doing animations. What was effected by Patreon stetch goals was,
      - higher res animations
      - monthly draws
      - tutorials

Other than that, I did the first couple animations and votes before I considered Patreon, and explicitly stated that I'd be doing weekly animations to fill the content gap. They would probably be game-sized if I didn't have a Patreon.

Seriously if this game is getting pushed back so much it must be a legit game now. Like 10hours gameplay, story arcs, choice and effect systems...

Just find it hard to believe that you started working on even more things, a WEEKLY thing as well when you've got a project (some people already paid for) so far behind. I get that you're making it better and bigger than planned, but still kind of ridiculous.

  29. Sup Kyrieru. Sorry, this may be totally off topic, but I'd like to ask something since I'm new to your work. I really liked Kurovadis, Eroico and also the Noaika demo. A little on the hard side, but very good.

I'd like to ask if you plan Noaika to have more dialogue and building of characters? For me personally h-games make for me much more when I see the characters as persons and not just a devices to have gameplay/story/porn.

Also would like to ask if you would add something like an invincibility option because hard gameplay is all fine and good until you get frustrated after trying for the n-th time and would perhaps like to skip a part.

"just not doing it with Noaika" seems to carefully imply different plans in future games. Some banter between the heroine and mission control/sidekick perhaps? Those are always fun to read... :)

    3. I have a lot of plans for games what will have deeper stories, and character dialogue.

Even for games that won't, I've considered the possibility of giving every enemy their own dialogue. Since it wouldn't be much work, and I think it would be interesting if each enemy had a little extra context.

      Delete
    4. Hearing this makes me very interested in these future plans of yours. It'd be great to see a heroine react to what the enemies can do to her if they defeat her for example.

By the way do you know the game Xenotake? Gameplay far from as interesting as yours (not even mentioning the robot part which was boring as fuck but at least he tried), but I really like how the author handled his characters and dialogue, which made the animations that much more spicy with just some context.

    1. Seconded. At least announce the winner of the poll and say that Fio will be uploaded in three days or something. If someone didn't ask in the comments already, we wouldn't even know what was the draw winner's image choice. I'd suggest twitter if you don't want to spend much time on big updates. Would also help to promote yourself.

      Delete
    2. I second that. Twitter is actually a good idea for updates. You could pin your recent development status. At least that's how I do it. Hentai doesn't seem to be an issue on the site either, so

    3. I agree with Kyrieru having a Twitter. It'd be a lot easier for him to even just link updates to his blog. Also I just like following creators on social media, just gives a more human look if you know what I'm saying. I'd follow.

    1. That's because I've answered such questions so many times before that I've started to ignore them. People say the same things every time, and I give the same answers.

It's only been around one week. My initial plan for this pause was three weeks, so It's not really taking any longer than I thought it would.

      Delete
    2. The three week thing is new for me. Dont take it as a bad thing as if people want to bully you, we're just curious how your doing. You dont need to remain silent until you upload all of the goals at once.

    3. Joining the discussion here. For me, up there "no promises" is no definitive answer. If you had a Twitter you could literally write "Sup losers, CSS is acting weird and I really want the site to be in shape before uploading Fio and also maybe the draw image". Maybe some vocal minority would complain but majority is just checking and not sure about the state of things.

Now, it is like "Will he upload the animation today? Won't he?" Fans are curious. Just my opinion. Sorry for my English.

      Delete
    4. I don't give definitive answers anymore. I never hear the end of it when I delay something I gave a date for, so It's just less stressful be vague and focus on my work. The more details I give, the more people just complain, make assumptions, and the more it just stresses me out responding to them with the same answers every time.

So, now I'm only responding to random questions about the game, or animations. Everything else isn't worth the time anymore.

On a side note, everyone who says "sorry for my English" ends up being well spoken >_>

    5. You flatter me. I always hope I don't look stupid by writing incorrectly. Especially when I use slang and other expressions I did not learn in school, but mostly from games, videos and social media.

Now I understand better why you act like you do. Not everyone can handle the stress of being known to many total strangers, some of whom might be irrationally pissed or speak shit about them. Just look at the poor Flappy Bird guy how he pulled his game when it went viral.

I'm not going to try to persuade you about anything. I probably cannot completely imagine your situation. But let me at least write my reflection on the subject, even if it may not be of any help. What if by staying in your protective shell to hide from the people who stress you out, you only make all your fans feel out of touch with you? Sort of a create-your-villain Batman style kinda thing :) Then not only the people who would complain no matter what bother you, but also some other people who are confused. It is easy for me to say to just ignore the ones who cause you stress, but maybe, just maybe, if you were able to do it it would be a better for both you and your fans. You have a certain following, assholes will find things to complain no matter what. I really hope what I wrote did not offend you, it just my honest opinion trying to imagine myself in a similar situation.

    6. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to be interacting with people, and answering questions. Just not the same questions I see every time I post that I've answered a hundred times.

I may go back to trying to stick to deadlines with more consistent status updates once I've finished Noaika and start another project (In fact I want to try making a game entirely on stream at some point). However with how far Noaika still has to go, and how sick people are of waiting for it, things are just too hostile. Once Noaika is finished, and demonstrates why it took so long, people won't have much to be upset about and I can move on from there.

Sorry for my ύβρις, but please don't dare to say that you're less than a fond artist, of what is today's most similiar discipline to the well known Puntinismo.

Having a fandom it's good or bad, depending on your point of view, and you should take decision consequently (including giving a stop to it, or allowing only registered users to comment, whatever you feel is the better)... so i think that about this situation, your only fault until now, has been to take in consideration pointless questions and comments: giving my opinion, the silence itself can speak for a thousand words.

Who is less distant from understanding your needs, an artist's one, acts accordingly and care to not stress you out.

About yor personality, i think you're also a modest and cordial guy, but you' shouldn' t immolate yourself.

I like how adding sound effects to an animation somehow turned into a three week change of schedule. And how kyrieru keeps on saying he'll show noaika screens "soon," instead of now, even though he ostensibly has months of awesome work to show us.

It's okay if you're a hardcore procrastinated, kyrieru. I'm sure most of us are, too. It'd be less annoying if you'd just come out and admit it, though, instead of giving us these awesome stories every week. :'D

    1. Thing to think about though is his content is very solid. While yes some of us have prepaid we were never given an exact date of the release, topped with that I am sure he knows full well that if he wants to make a living from this and keeping fans, rushing all the work isn't going to help. From his first game I have considered him to be a top tier designer and programmer and I am sure there are those who would agree, if that begins to drop it will show. Honestly I have very little idea how hard programming is, possible bugs, errors, making things work just the way you want, the closest thing I can compare it to is RPG maker and after hours of work, my brother was done in like 15minutes of the part I had made. XD

    2. No, don't get me wrong. Kyrieru is the best in the H-game business as far as I'm concerned. That doesn't change the fact that I think he's grossly exaggerating the amount of work he does on a weekly basis most of the time. It's amazing how many times his plans change in ways that would conveniently cover up the fact that he spends 90% of his time procrastinating instead of working (if that's actually the case. I won't go as far as calling Kyrieru a liar, even though I think most of the excuses and reasons he posts here are suspiciously convenient for him, hahah!) And now we have the vague "Mega deleted all my files!" blog post. Again, super convenient now that's going on two weeks "late" with the latest animation! This is such a surprising development!

You said you were going to post Noaika screenshots two weeks ago, Kyrieru! What are you waiting for? Are you going to post them when you get the new site up, or what? =P

Sorry for speaking the truth. I don't care that kyrieru goes five months between finishing things because he's sickly/depressed/lazy/procrastinating/busy with other shit/doesn't care/whatever. I *do* care that he gets all indignant whenever someone dares question how much work he's actually doing, when it's plain as day that he's not working nearly as much as he says he is.

I think Kyrieru is a good artist, and I think he's a nice guy, and I wish him all the best. But he's not fooling me or anything else with half a brain when starts telling his bullshit stories.

      >Is late on artwork, as always.
      >Posts "OH MY GOD MEGA ERASED ALL MY SHIT."
      >I laugh about it.
      >OH JESUS CHRIST YOU'RE BEYOND HELP IT TAKES 15 MINUTES TO RESTORE IT.

If he ends up having nothing to show after all this, I'm only out like a couple dollars, and honestly the work he did up till now was definitely worth the support, if he ends up having a lot to show for it, then hey, maybe my small patreon donation helped him a little further in making it.

I don't mean this to be negative to Kyrieru or anything so I hope its not taken that way. Point is, I know what I'm getting into by supporting his Patreon and I know Noalkia is probably a farcry from release if it ever does, and that's totally fine, he's not forcing me to check this site every 5 hours so I'm not gonna go complain at him for any of it.

  47. I've been coming to visit the progress of ky's work since I first played Kurovadis 2 years ago. Not once did I. nor should anyone, pressure him or comment looking to antagonize him. He is one person working on something that he wants to do. You, the people visiting the site, support him because you want to see what he creates. He doesnt owe anyone anything. However, that does not mean he doesn't work to provide what he said he would. Even if someone takes days of rest and it slows the process or whatever other belief that could exist, any person would and should do so.

Getting angry and impatient with a developer is one thing, but then attacking him is a sign of weakness and being ungrateful. I'm sure you are just as excited as any of the other people who frequent this blog daily but you don't need to attack the very person you seek to give you something. You are in turn biting the hand you want to feed you, which is so far beyond absurd is pure stupidity.

I apologize for my wall of text but I wanted to say that Ky has been great. Great work, great feedback, and while it takes time to make games and changes, don't think its because of laziness. There truly is a lot of work involved in creation. Not just the action of making it, but the actual conception and artistic acceptance phases as well. Give him the time he needs, and he will not disappoint you. I'm positive. Also, I apologize for any grammar mistakes. hard to proofread this text box.

I think asking for preorders last year was a bad idea; I know there are those who gave money thinking that the game wasn't going to be in limbo, without anything from the actual game posted even almost a year later, and that the donations would help you complete it faster. It almost seems like the opposite has happened. If no one had paid money already, I think at least a good portion of the negativity and hostility would go away (or at least I'd LIKE to think so, though you never know with people).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, it was pretty stupid. There were plenty of other things I could have done instead. If I had just made some tiny game and sold it for $1, or made another simple game with Eroico's engine, either would have made more than I did from pre-orders, and without the obligation. Or, I could have done animations with Patreon. Could have done a lot of things.

But, what's done is done. Can't change it now. All I can do is finish Noaika and remind myself to never do pre-orders again.

      Delete
    2. I preordered and I'm absolutely fine with my decision. Speak for yourself, not for me.

    3. Sorry if I sounded like I was trying to be rude about the preorder thing - I was just throwing out some conjecture. I'm sure there's plenty of supporters who preordered and are fine with waiting, just as there's likely those who feel like they're owed something sooner rather than later for giving money so early.

Myself, I only paid the lowest amount (a paltry five dollars, which was even less out of my pocket when converted to USD), so I'm not going to grab any pitchforks. I think I even remember Kyrieru saying that he wasn't completely comfortable with asking for preorders, which seems to make sense, given the present situation.

  52. I'm trying to imagine who the people hounding you currently would be gnawing on if you simply went silent after Eroico and worked on Noaika in secret. It's nice of you to keep up with your community in the first place; impressive at this point, given all the backlash.
The only thing I'd consider you guilty of is over-confidence and as a result loading too much work onto yourself to do within the time periods that people expect, some of which are ridiculous considering that you're a 1-man team. Personally, I'd much rather a finished product over a rushed disaster like Sim City. People just need to be patient.
This waiting game has gone on for a while, sure, but...this only seems as long as it does because we're spoiled by other projects that didn't go to the same lengths as this one.

Hang in there, plenty of us have your back. We'll enjoy what you've done when the time comes to reveal it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey, I have a question for you Kyrieru. When the final product comes out, will it have a option in the settings to turn off H-Content, because I've already pre-ordered and was hoping that I could play a bit alone, but then stick it on my flash-drive and play a bit of it at school while I wait for more instructions or while bored, stuff like that, since I see how in your design focus, you're trying to make Noaika a "game with H-Content", rather than a "H-Game". Plus the graphics are in my opinion already beautiful in the demo and from what I've heard from lurking this site for the past year, Noaika will have some really fun game mechanics.

Hope that you answer, and if you didn't have the intention of putting it in the game, hope it puts the idea in your mind as a possible feature.

Love your work and please finish this game and not succumb to the haters.
    Thanks <3

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, I plan on putting the option in, but I'm not so sure how I'll handle it yet. The thing is if I just cut off H-content like an on-off switch, there would be things you wouldn't be able to get in the game (items, status effects, etc)

I'll have to think about it a little more, and consider how I mean include stuff without limiting it

      Delete
    2. If the game has H deeply integrated into it's design which is awesome, couldn't it be damaging to it if you always have to think about how you are gonna turn off that particular H thing? Not sure how many people worry about that... Speedrunners? ^_^ Surely you don't want to show the game to your friends and pretend it's not an H game...

      Delete
    3. It would be damaging in the sense that features that improve the game wouldn't exist without adult content turned on. It would be like having a Harvest Moon Game without marriage, for example.

Some of them could have alternatives, though. They would be easy to implement, and change the balance of the all-ages mode, but it wouldn't be much more work. It would just be inferior in a few ways.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, well what I meant if for example it wouldn't subconsciously design a good H event differently so it would be easier to bypass if H is turned off.

  55. This was going to be a singular reply but I wrote too much to specify to just one person on here.

"I'll wager a majority of people here, or who are actually supporting his work, exist in the professional world"

You would have lost a large sum of money had that been a real wager you were so confident in. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. In the "professional world" of video games, let alone H games very little of the audience are actually developers themselves. I'm not saying none of them are, but games are made with an audience in mind.
Funny enough, developers don't actually have the time to be a majority audience in an industry they work in; It'd literally spell doom and bankruptcy to both the consumer and game dev.
Developers may start out as gamers - may be the reason they became a developer in the first place - but as a passion for production grows, you lose the time needed to consume. Sure there's "free time" and whatnot but if you're not a creator, you honestly wouldn't understand how much pressure people feel even during their breaks. Just to get this out there, you seem to actually lack the relativity so unfortunately I can only assume you're ignorant of what it's like to be in the shoes of a developer. Especially a one man developer.

Let's start with the basics. Noaika, along with Kyrieru's other games, is a pornographic game. People will no doubt play this for some special "relief" as we know. Kyrieru's games are also well designed enough to be played for pure fun but the fact of the matter is that people will play this for the H content. Whether it's legal or not, there will be kids who are under-aged, and have hit puberty enough to look for this type of stuff. It's fact.
Everyone was a kid once. With a very small exception, I doubt people will refuse this relation of when they were young and curious. It's just what people do. People set rules, but they know they'll get broken, they just have to reduce the numbers no matter how small for the sake of morals.
Back to topic: Adults are here too, yes. I'm one of them, believe it or not (it really doesn't matter anyway...)
Despite still falling into that target audience due to age and interests, I can still only find time occasionally to even just check up on this blog. I'm a creator, I produce. Fortunately for me, when I remember to check this blog, 3 times out of 5, I run into an update. Whether that's something new Kyrieru's shared in the comments or if it's a fresh batch of information written in detail on a post. It doesn't feel like long. And when it does, it doesn't feel painfully long or frustrating because I know it's tough.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Linking that to the next point: It's tough. When I said I was a creator, I'm actually an artist. Soon to be game developer. I'm learning. Why does a newbie to games development have a say in this? I'm still informed. Kyrieru's n experienced developer, and he sure does know a hell of a lot more than me, but I can still see the line of work going on in this industry.
It's painful when I see comments like "Oh you only changed these few small things, it shouldn't be taking THIS long..." and honestly, yes, it really does sound like someone who knows nothing about development is tapping away at the keyboard, in other words an under-age.
Coding is HARD. Coding takes a lot of memorisation. Coding takes skill, time and effort. Platformers are not easy to code just because they are one of the simplest types of games. There's a code for moving. There's a code for jumping. There's a code for vertical collision. There's a code for horizontal collision. There's a code for attack events and triggered attack events. A cool thing to know is that if you're experienced enough, most of that code can be bunched together if you know how to not fuck it up. Thinking you've fixed one problem can make another problem pop up elsewhere to something even indirectly related to a script of code. It isn't always like that, but the more complicated your game, the more tangled things can get if you don't thread it carefully.

Cave Story. Nice fun and short (but challenging) game, right? It's pretty simple. The mechanics are interesting, but it's not something too out there in concept. It was made by one person alone. They did the art, the story, the programming all by themselves. It took 5 years to develop.
If you don't believe Kyrieru's lying about the content going into this game then that's a hell of a lot of code and art. A bit of POV wouldn't be much to ask for (figuratively speaking). This is a lot of work and it'd put a huge toll on anyone no matter how skilled they were. Kyrieru's just like any human being. Unfortunately he isn't perfect. If there's one big mistake he made, it was probably sharing development information with you guys in the first place. He never set a certain date. This is a dev blog so sharing development information is what he does in the end.

Kyrieru has unfortunately wound up in the situation where people treat this blog like an official website for a single game product. He never owed anyone anything (other than the product of his Patreon which goes by product = payment method anyway) however he's still working hard. I know this because I don't believe Kyrieru would lie about the content he's putting into the game. It basically means he's bound to some extra work just for the sake of people having a satisfying product.
I'm one of those people who would love to see another update soon (who wouldn't) but I understand that honestly, small doses are a lot better to give.

I have a lot more to point out and talk about but I think for now, I've filled enough space on Kyrieru's comment section as it is. It's kind of amazing that people can call Kyrieru "immature" whilst he handles things without actually flinging shit at people. He deals with it a lot better than I would tbh.

A reminder, Kyrieru that you can easily hear loud people in a crowd, but a majority aren't shouting. You're doing an amazing job for your capacity. I don't often comment on here but I do admire what you manage to accomplish so don't forget that.
One more thing (I promise this time): I don't think you should continue doing everything by yourself. I'll offer you my help in the future but think about making a team (or even just an extra partner). Of course every thing's up to you so I'll make sure to be a considerable connection should I be allowed to say something so cocky soon, heh.

    2. Woah there... Apologies, I suppose it would be a lot if I had to split it in two in order to post it. Unfortunately that there's about half of what I have to say but it'd be troublesome to say any more at this rate.

  56. Out of curiosity, who has won the last character poll?

    1. Tharja, both in the poll, and on Patreon.

    2. Oh no, I was hoping for the Enchantress :( Guess we'll have to wait until the popular girls get ticked off the list. I'd bet Korra will be next unless something more popular is suggested...

Oh well, with Plague of Shadows out, my world would be too full of to much Shovel Knight goodness anyways.

    2. You weren't kidding around when you said it was going to be twice as big. I'm sure the H-content will be of even better quality (and it was already pretty nice before). Incidentally, will the monsters be scaled up from the demo too, or will they be the same size and resolution as the old sprites?

By the way, loved your work on Eroico and Kurovadis, and I'm looking forward to buying this when it comes out.

    3. lol side by side the original sprite looks like a cute little munchkin :3

(btw: is noaika the heroines name or just the name of the game?)

      Delete
    4. The Heroine's name is Noa.

Funnily enough, the tiny robot familiars are about as big as the old Noaika player sprites.

    5. We get stuff like that just from simply asking? Maybe we should've tried being nice to Ky sooner. Go figure!

But in all seriousness, thanks for this peek at the new sprite for Noa. I love what you do, Ky, and Noaika is one of my most anticipated games at the moment, right after Fallout 4 and Persona 5.

    6. :D This is worth of a separate update and you just show it like this at the bottom of an over two week old discussion. Geez, mister :D So good, can't wait to see her in action and I'm very happy you don't do spoilers for the game :)

    7. Get on the hype train! Choo choo! ^____^

    8. That an interesting change. This give to Noa a more serious look. Personally I quite like it.
Can't wait to see this in motion. For next update, idle/run/jump animations, please =D

Kyrieru : "Funnily enough, the tiny robot familiars are about as big as the old Noaika player sprites."
Why not using the old sprites as bonus/secret familiar ? Like something you'll unlock after finishing the game at 100%. That could be a nice addition.

      Delete
    9. Let's not push it right away, we can wait to see her move.

    10. Well, damn. I'm satisfied now. Take as long as you need, man.

    11. Damn she looks great, gj man.
That made me think of something though, how many animations had already been finished for the old sprite? Because I was hoping you would include them in a gallery or something as a bonus for finishing the game.

    12. @Anonymous (n°3)
By curiosity, I unpacked the sprites from the demo. And from what I seen, I can say there was a good amount of content already (I talk about the enemies/animations that wasn't available while playing the demo).

I support the idea of "recycling" the old sprites. Like I said above, it could be a bonus content available after finishing the game at 100%. =)

    13. maybe he will somehow recycle those animations on the familiars xoxoxo

    14. whoa, new noa looks fucking great! hype!

    16. Based on what Mikado said, do you think it'd be alright to show off those old enemy/animation sprites that didn't make it into the final product? My curiosity keeps getting piqued more and more in these threads.

  59. Hello Kyrieru, I read all the discussions so I know you don't currently like giving dates or answering repetitive questions about the state of the things. I just want to ask if there is a chance that weekly animations will return this next Saturday since that is three weeks if we don't count the week before you realized this pause of necessary. Not asking to rush you or anything, just asking because I want to make a suggestion on a new poll as soon as possible because the early ones are in general seen by more people who can vote on them and give their suggestions :) If the answer is I can skip on checking the blog for a whole day for the chance of the animations returning. You don't even have to answer for me to get the message, I'll interpret it as a if there is none. Thx boss :)

    1. Oh, apparently the comment system thinks you are trying an HTML injection if you put something between <> symbols and simply removes it :D What I meant was "If the answer is NO" and "I'll interpret it as a NO"

      Delete
    2. Pause will end on 23rd (I'll post all the delayed animations), next vote will start on 19th.

    3. Whoa, you're the best!

Guessing some people are gonna to die of dehydration on 23rd :D

      Delete
    4. Kreckman, you should post the new sprite with the update on the 23rd. You've already posted it in these comments, so you don't need to worry about spoiling people with it (which I assume you do when posting new content?).

As someone else posted, that image alone is worth an update. I thought I had reached maximum hype when I played the demo, but after seeing that image - I don't know. Double Hype at least. I've been sitting on my money waiting eagerly for the moment I can give it to you.

      Delete
    5. Does that include voiced old animations? If so, we will probably have to build you a shrine now ^_^

      Delete
    6. All of them? NUUUU plz, give as a peak at at least one today if you have them. I can wait, but is it necessary to do it like that?

  60. Hey, Kyrieru. Something's bothering me since I feel like I've asked it before but I can't find the answer (either that or I just thought about asking you and never did)
Noaika for sure, has a lot/is going to have a lot of content. Simple questions, I hope.

What does a crowd of enemies do if Noa is already in the process of a H action? Can Noa be subject to a threesome? And if so, can you mix and match a pair of enemies on Noa's H scenes for diversity?

By what you've said, Noaika already has a ton of options already, so I'd get if not everything was implemented. Other H games have done it before but you haven't. It's probably quite time consuming compared to everything else though. If you're okay with sharing some information on that, it'd be cool. (Or just a simple answer will do)

    1. Right now there are only 2 enemies that can gang up on the protagonist for the actual sex part. For others, there's some foreplay/grappling that can happen that uses common animations for the player.

Other than that, I don't think I'll be adding any more. If the animations were simpler and didn't have variations I might, but they do, so it would be quite a bit of work.

      Delete
    2. No, sounds good. Stuff like ganging up in H games varies sometimes. Like an enemy would have one animation when having sex with the protagonist on their own and if another of the same type joined in, then the other would get "added" onto the animation if that makes sense. The other angle would be if the singular animation was entirely different to the gang up animation.

I'm actually a fan of both types but I'm going to assume it an "added" type as that's be the most time efficient currently. Looking forward to more news in the future though.

      Delete
    3. Well, it's efficient, but 'm not really a fan of that method. Same with re-using poses for multiple animations. Stuff like that feels a little too "gamey" to me. I prefer unique animations.

Of course, I re-use animations for grappling and stuff, but that's mostly because you have some control over it, and so it would be a bit crazy to do variations for every enemy.

      Delete
  61. don't know if somebody already asked this, but since other people are posing questions, i'll try my luck.

will noaika contain scenes with other girls than noa, for example girls randomly stuck to walls of a monster lair you jump into and so on?

or will it more like a horror where you're absolutely alone with all that is out there?

sorry if this was already mentioned somewhere

    1. I can't remember if this was just an idea or not but you do have familiars in Noaika (robot girls I think) and I think I remember Kyrieru saying that they can get into H situations too.

      Delete
    2. Well, I won't answer the first question completely, but I will say that the familiars are there, and they do have H animations.

      Delete
    3. oh, that could be possible.

i now realized that answering this question might be a bit spoilerific, considering that you probably have to explore the mystery of the place you find yourself in, so i guess i'll prefer to skip out on what would be a complete answer, now that i think about it. even if all h were of noa, the game will probably still be chock full of content.

    4. and you replied just as i started writing myself :) as you already see from my previous reply, thank you for not answering :)

  62. Hey Kyrieru, just wanted to let you know you truly are one of the greats. I think few people can claim to be industry defining but I think I can safely say you can count yourself among that few.

All of us appreciate the effort that you go through to make games and the dedication it must take to come and read these comments even when people get toxic is truly awe inspiring.

I just wanted to leave this comment here in the hopes that it makes your day a little better. We all have rough days man but just know that you will always have support from your true fans.

    Stay cool Kyrieru.

    1. Well I appreciate it, but I'm not that great yet. Until I release Noaika, I'm just some guy who's released a couple of short, simple platformers. But, hopefully I'll finish something more worthy of that praise eventually, be it Noaika or something else.
