3d stuff

Here's a head I did, testing out some stuff.

If I was spending more time on texturing, I'd make sure to UV map each side of the face separately, where as here it's symmetrical, as you can see by the eyes. Unlike the last one, the mouth here is just a texture.

I also wanted to see how I would go about doing 3d tiles, so I tried doing a tile inspired by Wind Waker's textures, which seemed to have chamfered edges in the model that correspond to the top of the texture.

The bottom edges of the "island" surface are un-chamfered, to show the difference. (It just looks more square)

Looking at the chamfered edges, I'd probably need to have to try something different, since it warps the texture a bit. However I could probably fix that by having more edges per tile.

  1. Just from seeing this compared to your beginning attempts, you've improved a ton! Keep up the good work exploring your potential!

  2. I guess it needs supporting edges to prevent the UV distortion? I wouldn't worry about it too much, though, I didn't even notice it until you mentioned it.
    Looking good!

  7. At least he's using that money I gave him in preorder to make Noaika... Just kidding.
I like you, Kyrieru, I really do. Kurovadis and Eroico are great, and the demo for this game feels great... But your work ethic isnt great and Im getting tired of it, especially when you make the "excuse posts."
This will be the last game I get from you, whether I like this final product or not.

On the bright side theres still Crisis Point: Extinction to look forward to, and watch get made in a timely fashion with regular progress updates.

    1. I've said this in a previous post before, but if you're that dissatisfied because it's taking so long then I have no issue with giving you a refund. Just email me the purchase info.

    2. Oh my god the dev is not investing 16 hours a day into creating the game? He's slacking! I wonder how many anons don't even work or have a happy 8 hours job with a modest salary and enough free time to look up porn games and comment on them.

    3. I understand where you are coming from, but you got to be patient. Game development is a tedious and long processes.

Pushing that "attack button" may seem easy, but it actually probably took hours to research, program, test and make visually pleasing

Ky obviously doesn't want to spoil anything and he was honest and gave full disclosure when he asked for pre-orders.

I actually like the post he dose, as at least we know hes alive and working, as opposed to just giving us dead air like many other game devs do.

    4. Different anon than youre replying to, but I'll jump in anyways. Ive worked on a few sprite games that have been released on Steam Greenlight, and made one entirely by myself, as Kyrieru here does. People that -dont- make games overestimate how hard it is and how long it takes to actually finish bits and pieces. Sure its tedious... But this tedious? No, this is jsut procrastination at its finest. We've all been there before, just most of us dont lead people to believe otherwise then wonder why they get upset after theyve been misinformed.
I thoroughly enjoyed Kurovadis.. Eroico not so much to be honest, but it was still well made and I know most other folks enjoyed it, so Im sure this game will turn out fine. I just get really tired of people coming to his defense that have never worked on a game in their lives and dont actually understand the process, they just assume hes trying his damnedest, when people in his same business can tell how bullshit that is.
I'm still going to buy this game when it comes out, just needed to vent some frustrations. Maybe after this he'll actually get a PATREON for the next game so it goes faster.
Like I saw somebody say on ULMF: "Why doesnt Kyrieru just get a Patreon? He has such a huge following that within a month he'd be set for life."

      Delete
    5. There's no need for a Patreon, especially not after I'm eventually at a point where I've released a product again. From then on, there would be no reason to crowd-fund, and honestly, if I ever ran into financial trouble again I'd much rather get a normal job until my next project is finished, rather than take pre-orders the way I did this time around.

Also, I've never wondered why people are upset. If you look at a lot of my responses to people who have come to my defense, my response has generally been something along the lines of "It's understandable that people are frustrated". I never gave a release date to begin with, but of course it's obvious to me why people get annoyed when the game takes twice as long as anything I've ever worked on, and there's very little info being given about it.

Lastly, in response to what you mentioned about working on games yourself; frankly it's irrelevant unless the game had the same amount of content ,of the same nature, the same number of songs, sound effects, was of similar level of quality, and you also experienced the same health issues during it's production as I have with Noaika. None of which you can even know until the game is released.

Not saying that you're lying or anything... But your credibility kind of comes into question when you post as an anon and you don't even give us the name of the titles you worked on......

    8. If someone says something that makes sense, it shouldn't matter if they can prove what they've worked on or not. Working on a game wouldn't make bad info relevant, or vice-versa.

The only problem with his post is that he's comparing his experience to that of someone he doesn't really know anything about, and to a game he hasn't played beyond an outdated demo.

  8. WHY ARE YOU WORKING ON GAME STUFF WHEN YOU COULD BE WORKING ON MORE GAME STUFF?!?

    But seriously--
You're quite the quick learner. Granted, I guess you kinda need to be when it comes to game programming/development. These 3D works are getting much nicer with each post you make. Really makes me curious on what sort of doors this might open.

  9. Yup this is great, a lot better than the old stuff. You're definitely improving, keep up the good work! :D

  10. I really love the cell shaded style of wind waker, your modelling is coming along very nicely.

Legend of The Wind Wanker... Think about it, huh?

    1. Nah, I don't include sexual terms in titles. I only use pretentious names that don't explain what the game is about at all -___-

      Delete
    2. You gotta admit the legend of windwinker kinda sound cool! By the way how did you came up with the name the game you working on?

      Delete
    3. I needed a title for the game's demo, but had "no time" to come up with one.

    4. Every thought of using a name generator? I have to recommend behind the name!http://www.behindthename.com/random/random.php?number=3&gender=m&surname=&all=no&usage_afr=1&usage_kor=1
Not only does it generate a name from a Country Origin but it also give you the meaning behind the name. you never know it might come in handy;)

      Delete
    5. To come up names, I generally just go onto google translate, use words that are relevant to the character or story, and then translate them into different languages, and combine then.

For example when I said "no time", that's what the title was based off of. "Aika" is time in Finnish, thus "Noaika".

As for the name generator, I'll take a look. You can never have too many tools.

      Delete
    6. Trust you gonna like it! Even if your not gonna use it;) Noaika mean no time hmm oddly I since a reference or a pun in that name.

      Delete
    7. That's pretty interesting. I'm pretty thorough when coming up with names but usually I'd do something similar but try to mess with the Thesaurus a little without sounding like I'm trying too hard.

Another good way to come up with names yourself is to ask a lot of questions about the importance of everything you can think of and try using key elements from your answers, as long as they fit together (exclude some if out of place).

    1. The only promise I've made about this game is that it will be finished (because there are pre-orders). Beyond that, I can only promise what is already in the game. such as the fact that there mini-bosses, and more enemies/H-animations overall. But that's because it already exists, so it's not exactly a promise -___-

  15. Are you planning on making a 3D game after you keep working on modeling/animating?

    1. I will keep doing 3d stuff in my free time, but there will probably be at least three or four more 2d games before I try and make a 3d game. However, I'm going to try and do everything as if it were for a game, so that when the time comes I'll have at least some of the models and textures ready to go.

I would ask about the progress on Noaika but that'd be repeating, do you have any plans on what you'll be doing for the next game? After all these 3D posts it seems like you really want to implement that into a game. Just curious

    3. Pretty neat. It's always funny seeing people's interpretation of the gun, because the one design of it I ever drew was pretty nonsensical, so anybody who draws it sort of has to figure it out a little bit.

      Delete
    4. was kurovadis gun was similar to megaman?

      Delete
    5. I mean the gun I drew in a sketch. The gun in-game doesn't really have enough detail to distinguish it's appearance, beyond the fact that it looks arm-mounted, like the mega-buster.

    6. the reason i ask is when i played kurovadis the gun look like the gundam alex custom 90mm gatling gun here a pic of it https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/b2/79/af/b279af60af2d4b22973caad3d9522303.jpg

    7. Yeah I based off some sketch I saw while checking past pages here. I guess that's a side effect of having all CGs with the character naked, there's no ref for the fully clothed version.

Also thanks for the comments! I'm always worried of fucking up something while drawing fanart but I'm glad I did justice to the original concept

      Delete
    8. Well, with Kuro I like seeing people's different interpretations anyway, because there isn't really a single, official appearance yet, since you never actually see what she looks like in-game. Once I make Kurovadis 2/start from the beginning, I'll probably spend more time designing her appearance.

  19. Any kind of update just to make sure you're still alive and kicking? I don't care for anything huge. A doodle would even be nice, just to see you're okay.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've actually tried to do some doodles for an update a few times, but every time I do I'm so out of practice that I end up tossing them -___-. I'll probably try and do some doodles more often when I start doing CGs, since I'll need to bring myself back up to speed (and beyond, since I want to actually be proud of the CGs this time, as opposed to the ones in previous games which were done 2 a day).

Plus, there isn't exactly much to talk about lately. Has there been progress? Of course, plenty, and a hell of lot of changing things. Am I still taking it a little slow? Yes. But, there's no reason to worry. My health interferes with my work sometimes, but I'm not really in any danger, and hopefully focusing on my health a bit more like I'm doing will help to alleviate some of the problems I've been having for the past two years.

      Delete
    2. Ah, no worries then!
Don't be too mindful of your doodles though, as an artist you may just think it looks worst than it actually is. I should probably just make an account on here since I'm on so often but even if your drawings are a little off, I'd be happy to see them and give you some feedback!
I wanna also do some drawings for you at some point after my work and references would be nice, but it sounds like you don't mind some interpretations so I could just give it a go soon.

Just saying as well, even when you were talking about the item and currency values in games, I find that stuff extremely interesting to listen to as someone who wants to make games themselves someday! I like to take different views and options like that into account and it's refreshing, so if you feel like talking about other stuff to do with games design like that then feel free!
      I'll welcome it at least!

    5. I'll probably return to that game at some point, though it would be a lot different than it was going to be at the time. For the most part, the main reason to return to it would be the fact that the player animations are worth using, whereas with a lot of my older games I would have to edit them too much.
