For those of you who haven't read my last post, you might want to read that before reading this.
For the fun of it, I've decided to do a poll to decide what the first boss of the game will be. This would be the boss you'll face at the end of the demo.
The options are on the right, you can choose multiple options if you want a combination of certain elements. You can also expand on your choice in the comments, if you'd like.
Mind control futa jester girl yo.ReplyDelete
Damn, you read my mind, I was just about to say that. Though the real question is should the jester be futa or turn the player into a futa?Delete
Vote changed to reflect this obviously superior choice.Delete
Oh man, I thought futa would be dead-last since everyone is usually so vehemently against it. Pleasant surprise.
TURN THE PLAYER INTO THE FUTA! TURN THE PLAYER INTO THE FUTA!Delete
I chose Humanoid Beast and Dinosaur.ReplyDelete
Basically, my thinking is the first boss should be something that introduces the player to the boss mechanics, rather than doing anything particularly unique. Later bosses can mess with (or even break) that formula, but it needs to be set in stone first. So, a singular enemy to fight, and nothing that plays with the mechanics too much (a boss with mind control powers, for example, I expect would affect the player's controls. It's only the first boss, let them get used to controlling their character before they lose it! D:). Plus, "Jester Girl" sounds like a human boss. This is a personal preference, but I like in games where the majority of enemies are monsters to save the human enemies for later. I can't fully explain why without a long rant of gibberish, though. xP
And I know nothing about game design so don't listen to me. :X
The 'human enemies for later' idea is just because, from an atmospheric perspective, it gives a curious sense of depth to the boss without the need for narration. Given that we relate to humans, seeing one as a later boss than that house-sized monstrosity and that flying shark means it immediately gives the impression of 'woah, they must be something'. That, added to the fact that there's a 'dark link' stylistic appeal to fighting a similar character to one's protagonist, particularly well into the game when one's become familiar with their own fighting style, and you make for an interesting fight with minimal need for first building 'investment' in the fight (in fact, explaining 'mirror' matchups seems to be a sort of narrative faux pas, for how little I can think of it being done well).Delete
That said, humanoid enemies are also often used at the start of games, to work from fighting 'normal' fights into more outlandish ones later (the ubiquitous bandit-leader boss fight in so many games, as an example). That, or humanoid bosses could be one 'style' of boss fight-- a a comparison, in many mario games, there's 'bowser' bosses, and there's 'other' bosses, and they often share mechanics, but the bowser bosses have more parallels and progression within its own formula-- so a 50-50 split rather than just an at-each-end method works just as well.
That said... mine own sapphic skew stipulates my somewhat selfishly selecting female.
And also plant.
...and also whatever 'breeding machine' is, simply because the word 'machine' is involved.
...actually, I selected enough that my vote probably amounts to null. XD
Also, for some reason, your 'I choose humanoid beast dinosaur' sounded like you were playing a card game in a dramatic fashion. Not sure why, but giggled at that mental image.Delete
Futa spider queen, with potential helpers, hands down. Platforming games with more than a single token futa are few are far between, let alone a good one.ReplyDelete
...then again, left to my own devices, everything in the game would be a futa monstergirl besides the player.
Futa is a bit over used as is so that would be a no for me. :/Delete
I kind of want to see what you mean by "Breeding-Machine". Is it organic, or mechanical? Either way, I think anything but tentacles and/or female would do fine. Tentacles seem over-done, and female is so boring.ReplyDelete
I'm on board with that! I saw "Breeding Machine" and my interest piqued. And male is "yeah alright, lots of burly things there" female is rather boring most of the time by itself, and futa is the best of both worlds! FUTA BREEDING MACHINE FOR THE WIN! :DDelete
Gotta be a dinosaur, *rawr* or maybe a brontosaurus/t-rex/chicken/cat hybrid.ReplyDelete
The main character from Eroico. <3ReplyDelete
Anything but futa and tentacles because tentacles is the lazy way out and futa porn is all you ever see now daysReplyDelete
I agree. Futa is really prolific; there's nothing left for the rest of us.Delete
What a cruel April Fools jokeReplyDelete
Oh.... oh no... and I had been on the lookup for those! I didn't listen to myself! noooooo!Delete
I'd rather have a Legion-type boss.ReplyDelete
Combination of Futa Spider queen and breeding machine would be nice 8-) Maybe she can turn heroine into a breeding slave or something like thatReplyDelete
lots of cute bunniesReplyDelete
Gang bang for the win, but I'll settle for a spider queen.ReplyDelete
That poll font colour on the background, the numbers are hard to see without highlighting it.ReplyDelete
I can't actually change it from black, it doesn't seem to follow the scheme of the blog.Delete
Ah, that's too bad then. Maybe send a bug report to Blogger?Delete
You never specified the gender of your protagonist, but assuming that you are female (ie. the pic you provided is the protagonist), here are my preferences:ReplyDelete
-life drain (as in, their (visible?) lifebar goes up as yours goes down, and you can escape via struggling)
-dogs! wolves! doggystyle! creampies, knots, pumping sounds!
I will be EXTREMELY disappointed if there are robots with dildos or whatever. Robots are fucking inorganic. They're weak sauce.
I also dislike gang-bangs in sprite games. I feel as if the medium (at what I'm guessing is Kyrieru's preferred resolution) simply doesn't allow for the level of detail required to properly animate a gang-bang. They're always confusing and there's that one pixel that sticks out and you're like "is that her elbow...?" and it breaks the suspension of disbelief.
Anyway, that's my stance.
PS. I think you are rationalizing anxiety concerning the completion of your games, by saying that this new endeavor is driven by financial imperative. Maybe it is, but I can't see how you could possibly think you could finish a demo on day 1 (arbitrary, just for scale here), fail to finish it all the way until day 7, then say that even with all the extra time, you could MAKE AN ENTIRE NEW GAME AND DEMO in less time than it'd take you to finish the first project.
Not trying to be aggressive or negative; all my criticism is meant to be constructive and to help you expand your horizons as an artist. Nothing but respect for what you've done on the internet (as that's all I know about you). I'm just pointing out something that I think will hold you back in the future.
It's because the new game is smaller in scale, and familiar territory for me. Many of the elements that make developing the other game time consuming are not present here, and I'm basically just doing what I know will work rather than experimenting at every turn..Delete
What do you mean, robots are "weak sauce"? They're better BECAUSE they're inorganic!Delete
...Breeding-machine? I'm scared to ask.ReplyDelete
I'd really like to see a reptilian humanoid futa lady boss thingy. A combination of those things just sounds glorious.ReplyDelete
And here I was thinking I was alone in some of my various preferences. +1 for this.Delete
And to those saying futa is overdone...I understand that you may dislike it. But compare how many games have futa as a focus (A game with 99% male enemies and a single futa, does not make it a futa game). Most action games involve tentacles, animals, and overly fat or muscular men.
I can perfectly understand not wanting the whole game about futa, just as I would be opposed to the whole game being about men or straight-sex (which is why Eroico was a sad thing for me). A healthy balance of things is what is needed, while making sure not to 100% force things on players that may be disliked (unavoidable cut-scene sex/rape? No thanks).
You're too good for breeding machines... Unless the breeding machine is a female, with a cock, who can use shadowclone jutsu, and likes to suck her own dick.ReplyDelete
I'd like to see a humanoid as the first boss. That way, it feels like it's escalating when the player moves onto larger and more monstrous bosses.ReplyDelete
Also, if the first boss turns out to be humanoid, I'd like to express interest in allowing them to aid the player, give hints, etc. after being defeated. I think it really brightens the game's atmosphere to have one recurring friendly character show up starting early in the game. This probably means that this character would be female, since people have extremely different standards for male-on-female and female-on-female rapists... (On the other hand, shota-on-female may not upset people... no idea on that one.)
I appreciated how LAB had the female boss show up every so often once the protagonist defeated her, for example. However, I wished that the protagonist could interact with her more, and it was awfully late in the game that the protagonist fought her.
spider queen/girl harem FTWReplyDelete
Is it wrong that I couldn't really choose and ended up voting for most of the options lol. Either way I like the idea of a futa jester girl :)ReplyDelete
You can effectively "down-vote" a particularly hated option by voting for every option but that one, so that still works out.Delete
Hey, Kyrieru! Gift art, I guess.ReplyDelete
A little unrelated to this, but I was cleaning up some of my files, and came across these sprite tiles that I had done for a "proof of concept" ROM hack, of Zelda ALTTP, of all things!
I had a lot more done, but I seem to have lost most of the tiles for this. Damn! A shame, too.
(The file I stumbled across, was an older copy of a file that I MAY have deleted.)
Perhaps you will find them nifty:
If I manage to find the rest of this, I will be sure to send it to you!
Looks pretty neat lol. I always find it cool when I see any kind of fan work.Delete
Come on Female Dinosaur Humanoid beast. I'm telling you people never make use of the tails when it comes to these monsters. Like an example she could hold the main character upside down and force a standing 69 by holding her head in place with her tail.ReplyDelete
Please be male protagonist against female boss. Not enough games with male protags among the sea of platformers with female protags.ReplyDelete
This comment has been removed by the author.Delete
Protag is already female. For the game you want, go see the last game, Eroico. As far as I know, it features 100% straight guy on girl sex.Delete
Obvious sarcasm is obvious?Delete
That's the issue with Anons....can never tell if its the same one or not lol. Though agreed with Lin (assuming 5:36 Anon isn't same)Delete
Remember that you can change your vote to narrow in on what is wanted as the numbers build up. No reason to vote for an option you feel meh for when the one you really want is only behind by a little bit. As of the time of this post, lead seems to be a futa humanoid beast reptile breeder. Assuming "breeding machine" means the focus of the boss is on breeding, and not some silly cock-on-a-box robot. Personally, I'm looking forward to and support our new futa lizard-girl breeder overlords.ReplyDelete
Damn... the votes are headed in the direction of Futa.... fuck... that sucks. Pfft!!ReplyDelete
Yay women with male parts, hermaphrodite, transexual, anyone? Pass!! not I good sirs.Delete
Goddamn, son. Is this even legit?
Please, if a woman has a dick that just means there's more of her to love. Can you truly claim you love someone if you refuse to consume every form of excretion they produce and surrender all of your holes to your lover? Nay, I say!Delete
Futa is such a waste of a demo boss... At least we won't have to deal with it being one of the more well thought out bosses though.ReplyDelete
Was pretty pointless to add a vote system since almost all can be exploited to the fullest.ReplyDelete
It's like every person that makes these has never heard of hidemyass or the other ip hiding sites..
