Starting soon

Well then,

I'll be starting the next game on the 1st, and development will last around four months.

To put it simply, my goal this time around is to make something great. Short and simple isn't going to cut it for me anymore. I've reached a point as a developer where the challenge isn't really technical, but rather it's holding my attention with work I can actually be proud of.

I've also decided to put off hiring other artists for now, so I'll still be developing by myself, as usual.

There will also be a few other changes in terms of development,

Game Maker Studio
I'll be switching from Game Maker 8.1 to Game Maker Studio, which will mean a couple differences,

The first is the possibility of Japanese language support. Thus far, I've made sure to avoid including dialogue because it would have been impossible for me to display a Japanese translation. However I've confirmed that this is now possible in GM Studio, so the doors are open for text, if the game calls for it.

It's also come to my attention that GM will include Ouya support within the Android module, so I'll be developing with Android in mind (in terms of compatibility, that is). Keep in mind that even if Android stores don't allow adult content, that doesn't prevent me from selling .apk files. Though I may consider releasing all ages versions of the game, as well.

Daily art and music practice

In other news, I'll also be doing some daily content.

For the last few years I've pretty much stopped practising art entirely in favour of game development. To remedy this, I'll be doing artwork everyday, and posting it on the blog. I'll probably start with random hentai sketches, and then move on to drawing manga again, if I get a bit more consistent. Hopefully this will benefit CGs, when the time comes.

Also, though it may not be daily like the art will, I'll also be posting music. Mostly improve to simple melodies using what instruments I have.

New Payment Method

Aaand last but no least, I've begun using a free service that makes the checkout process easier when buying games. In addition to saying something more obvious than "back to Overture Interactive", it will also send the customer an email address containing a download link.

That's about it, really.

  1. Congrats on progress! I will soon be starting my game as well! I wish you luck in sticking with the project

  2. Yay! I'll look forward to those blog posts. And the idea of being able to play the games on the Ouya, TV and controller and all, sounds cool. ^-^

  3. Will you be taking suggestions on artwork?

    1. If you're going to make comic pages in the latter, you can try telling a story about how hell broke loose on Kurovadis, like Why was Kuro sleeping in a chamber? Why does she have a mega booster on her hand? Why was a factory built over a haunted mansion? Okay, scrap the last one

    2. Well, I'd be giving some in-game backstory when I make Kurovadis 2.

    3. Why wouldn't you build a factory ontop of a haunted mansion?

Jeez, some people these days. Don't even know where to build their factories.

  4. You're like one of my all time "creative" heroes. I love your work, your methodology, and your interest in self improvement. Can't wait to see what the future holds :)

  5. For the android thing, you could put an all ages version in the android stores, and have another apk that unlocks the H content that you would distribute.
I don't know if I explained myself well.

  6. Any possibility of more tutorials? Specifically something on creating game music? It would be very helpful to other aspiring creators. :)

  7. Well as always, glad to hear progress is on the way and hope things work out this way. Good luck with it :D

  9. Wonderful news! Between the daily arts and your ambition for the next game, you are spoiling us.

  10. I know for android there's at least the Mikandi adult app store as a possibility.

Or you could sell the apk directly, obviously.

  11. Question: how are you able to develop a game in only 4 to 6 months?

    1. Eroico took that long to make, and it's time could have been shortened a lot if he didn't have to build the engine. He already has the engine this time, so he can focus fully on the game

    2. Eroico could have been completed in less than three months, if I was working at a constant pace.

This time around I'm going to be spending much more time on the game.

    3. We're all cheering for ya. Looking forward to it, and my money is eagerly waiting to be spent on it. :P

It's kinda funny, a solo indie developer of H-Games has more integrity and inspires more loyalty from me than most major companies.

  12. Looking forward to the new project!

  13. I was looking at the Ouya site today on that very topic, I have to say that I'm kind of disappointed in them. They have the ability to set new standards in artistic expression but cave into the nanny complex. I can sort of see their point, but still.... I guess we wont be seeing any western erotic visual novels on Ouya anytime soon -_-

I'm still about a year or two from developing an actual game, so maybe it will change by then ^_^

Good going with the new project

  14. Ha, at last some sizeable game - your earlier projects were surely nice, but I'd like to see what you're really capable of after all this practice.

As for the sketches - H and not - are all of them be original ones or you plan to make some doujin ones? Asking because I know of people who'd throw you a few bucks even for a decent, clear H sketch of some of their favorite characters (Chii from Chobits? Nadia from The Secret of Blue Water? Deedlit from Lodoss War etc). It may be some decent way to reinforce your financial reserves for the future games.

  15. I realize nobody cares, but I really wish there was some Linux support.

I have only recently found your work, and really enjoy the current two games. I still haven't purchased them, and probably won't do so until I can get the current games functioning fully under WINE. Currently the sound is messed up, and they sometimes crash, which makes it hard to enjoy the games to their fullest. I understand Linux users are a very small portion of the market, so we probably won't see any love. If the next project gets some love (intentionally or accidentally), I'll definitely be shoveling some cash into your pockets to help further projects.

    1. Well, with wine 1.5.30-31 and several original directx dlls, I only have a pad issue with Eroico, so I played through with the keyboard instead just fine, since it's configurable.

No sound issues or crashes, either.

  16. I really want to see more content on Eroico but I can understand why it's like that (watched youtube playthroughs and played the demo since not paid yet ;.;).

I don't know if this has been asked but have you considered adding donations to your site?

    I'm probably one of the rare female gamers and I just find ...the male protagonist really cute >_>;

    1. I actually haven't found any other GoR action platformers with male protagonists. I was hoping to eventually make one myself (in a while) that allow multiple playable characters, including male, female, and futa protagonists. Each character would have their own GoR content. I'm actually surprised there aren't more H-games in the platformer genre overall.

    2. He does have a donations page, but it's in his Overture site, not here
      This is the link: http://overtureinteractive.blogspot.ca/p/donate.html

    3. I must agree, more of such kind of games but with male protagonist would be really nice - the niche is practically unclaimed.

  17. If you could do an artwork of the succubus in Kurovadis kissing the main character, that would be awesome!

  18. I can't wait for your next game! Good luck! ^^ (And sorry for my bad english...)

  19. So, are you going to post the art practice in this blog? A different one?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Question for Kurovadis, please.

Is it possible to have multiple saves? Because I don't wanna run through the whole game to get to certain scenes...if you know what I mean.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No, it isn't. All you can do is copy the save file in the folder, if you want multiples.

  21. @ daily art: daily drawing will defenetly benefit your CGs. If I look back how my drawings looked like 1 year ago......they have envolved a lot. So yours will, too^^
(now I think, when I'm looking at 1 year old drawings: "holy sh*t! they are all horrably thin! why did I think I've done a good drawing when I drew this? so much mistakes in it.....it's sooooooo UGLY °A°" xDD)
