Sketches

I did some quick sketches today. I'm trying to decide what I want the protagonist to look like in CGs, so that I can practice drawing her that way beforehand. Cgs in the past haven't really been the most consistent, because I ended up drawing the main character differently in pretty much every scene -__-

The first few sketches kind of sucked..

The best were the top left and the one on the right, I think. Though if I want to draw bigger eyes, I need to practice making them more "focused". Whenever I do big eyes, they always seem to be looking in a vague direction. I also need to make the hair conform more to the shape the head, since I've found myself making it too straight in the front.

Edit:
Geh. Second sketches kinda suck too. I need to practice more..

  1. I prefer one on the right
Not really a fan of Ahoge

Perhaps a poll would be a great Idea , whether give her Ahoge or not

  2. would you ever consider taking small commissions for simple (non-h) lineart/colored sketches or would that not be worth it since it'd subtract from game development time?

    1. I might do commissions once I'm working on the next game, since I'll also be drawing on a daily basis, however for now I don't really have time for it,

  3. They're mostly 3/4 viewwwww.

For getting hair to conform to the shape of the head, maybe making a guideline from the top/root of the head to the nose would help.

Are you going for soft shading for CGs this time?

    1. Their mostly 3/4 because I'm trying to decide on the style and how the hair looks, so It makes sense to draw them all in the same view, more or less. After I decide, then I can worry about drawing that style in different poses.

    2. As for the shading style, I don't know yet.

    3. Makes sense.

And not knowing sounds just like you. xD

    4. It's just not something I'm worried about. I'm confident doing either cell-shading or softshading, so it will more or less come down to what I think better fits the line art.

    5. I see.

I was meaning, uh... just the way you've been doing things. You just ended up drawing Kuro nude for all the Kurovadis CGs to not have to bother making a consistent suit - even though none of the enemies seemed to ever bother stripping her. By your sketches, it looks like you've improved a lot as an artist since then so I'm looking forward to the CGs of this game and wanted to ask.

Also, I'm not too worried about eyes as you seem to be. Large eyes pretty much always seem to be focused on a vague direction anyway - it's hard to avoid. + I prefer the way you do eyes in the first set of sketches.

  4. Second sketch, top left. Definitely the best and safest bet you can go with, imo.

  5. You sometimes draw the one eye bigger than the other one, but I think it depends from the point of view.
If you ask me, I like the middle girl in the lowest line.

Besides that, I think you say ''geh'' like ''g'' in 'G-Unit'. So ''gee'' isn't that wrong in my opinion :D

    Now draw an ahegao.

  7. So the character is a girl, or a shorta? I can't really tell.
