Yes I'm alive, no I haven't abandoned Noaika.
I've had some difficulties working for extended periods of time over the past few months, mainly due to a pinched nerve in my leg. I've since bought a new chair, as well as a standing desk, which will hopefully help, in more ways than one. I'll also be seeing a docter later this month in order to fix another problem I've had for years. Wouldn't that be neat.
Anyhow, boring health out of the way; First thing on my to do list is get the remaining Patreon stuff done, still. There's something I've had the chance to work on more than a few times, but procrastination got the better of me. Once the Patreon stuff is done I'll close the Patreon, since it sucks up time, and financially I'm fine.
After the Patreon stuff is done, I'll be finishing one of the smaller games. In addition to needing to release a damn game, I also need to get some GM2 stuff straight before trying to implement it in Noaika. This includes switching to tile based collisions, and external file handling. Being a CCC developer is fun and all, but I don't want another game that runs like a potato on a sports car.
That's it, more or less. Maybe I'll be more active with random posts once I'm releasing content more consistently, but until then it feels like I'd be wasting people's time.
Hope the doctor can stop the pain. Get well soon!ReplyDelete
Get well! You're my favorite H-Game developer, so it would be a shame to see you in bad health.ReplyDelete
So... Noaika never? Alright.ReplyDelete
I feel like a douche for pointing it out, but that's basically exactly what you said in the Feb update. Still working on Patreon, then will release a smaller game etc.ReplyDelete
Oh well, glad to hear you're getting health issues sorted.
Which is exactly why I haven't made any posts. I only did because people kept asking.Delete
Not complaining, honestly I'm happy to hear anything indicating Noaika will still be released one day. Your games are some of the only H-games that make me want to finish them because they're fun, not just for the H-scenes.Delete
Wish you the best of luck with your health issues, these things can be a recurring nightmare sometimes.ReplyDelete
Now if you don't mind the question, why switch to tile-based collisions for Noaika in GMS2? Isn't the use of collision masks for each object more appropriate for a 2D side-scrolling platformer?
It's better for me for a couple reasons;Delete
1. I don't need to add objects for collisions. After putting down the tiles, it's already ready for gameplay.
2. It's much, much faster. I'm already using squares for masks anyway, so checking single points is essentially the same thing.
3. It's less prone to bugs
Keeping in mind, I can still use any other type of collisions at the same time. For example, attacks will still use collision masks.
Good points, funny how I always forget you're not limited to just one type of collision when discussing this subject.Delete
Thank you for the answer.
"I'll close the Patreon [...] because I'm financially fine." well shit that's at least commendable if nothing else. Hope you get your "health problem you've had for years" fixed.ReplyDelete
What's up with the unlock file you sent to Patreons forever ago? I still have it and never heard anything about it again.ReplyDelete
It will work with the small game I will be releasing before Noaika.Delete
Nice to see you post again, best wishes to you and your health!ReplyDelete
I..suddenly have mixed feelings about going to the docter...Delete
Once again you need a new red goblin horde to carry oxygen for you?Delete
then take no hesitation , you need oxygen for ascend to AAA developer-hood(if that sling will do)
So whatever happened to that game you were making with the umbrella wielding blue haired girl? I really liked that character design.ReplyDelete
Like a potato on a sports car. Does that explain why Kurovadis suddenly runs like garbage on my new computer but ran fine on my old one? I've had that problem with a lot of random indie 2D games, like Super Smash Land.ReplyDelete
GM was wierd incompatibilities. Even on my PC, sometimes it would limit the frame rate, yet restarting would fix it. No idea why. Aside from that, it isn't optimized super well.Delete
... Who are you again?ReplyDelete
sorry for dumb question... what is a "CCC developer"?ReplyDelete
A term I'm using to denote a developer with low standards, as opposed to a AAA developer, which would be held to higher standards.Delete
"Triple A" developers have become progressively more notorious for releasing half-finished games that are more famous for their new bugs than new features, so... yeeeeah... don't beat yourself up too much for the bar they set...Delete
“A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.”
Bit trite to quote, but certainly true. People like your games because they -aren't- copy-pasted templates rather than -games-. And legitimately -fun- games, at that. Scratches the itch left by the lack of Metroid, Megaman, and Castlevania certainly.
Unlike Nintendo, Capcom, and Konami, however, you're -still making those sorts of games-, so... really, I don't see any reason for people to be bitter. I mean, it's not like you ditched the genre, attacked your fans, or gave up to go play pachinko.
Salty cheap shots aside, though, it's not like there's any overwhelming deluge of good H games to edge out your niche of /actually making good games/, so time's really not that big a deal so long as you can get by.
Oh, but feel free to post random dev-stuff too, progress nonwithstanding-- I always enjoy reading into the details behind how some of my favorite games work.
Well, when individual aspects of games have all been done right before, there's no reason not to hold yourself to those standards, rather than those of the average game.Delete
In my case, there are a lot of quality of life features I didn't focus on enough, as well as additional polish for things like menus, more fleshed out options, etc. Hell, the options screen is one of the first places players go, so it's pretty lame for it to be a bunch of text on a black background.
"Maybe I'll be more active with random posts once I'm releasing content more consistently, but until then it feels like I'd be wasting people's time."ReplyDelete
Something as simple as "i'm alive and doing well" is enough you know, as long as you post something once in a while.
Go on his twitter account.Delete
Good. I thought you were dead. Just keep plodding along and make cool stuff. I know that it'll be worth the wait.ReplyDelete
Did you make that sprite for practice/fun or is it part of one of your projects?ReplyDelete
Was just for fun.Delete
If it make you feel better , then draw more.Delete
......................................hope you draw more , soon.
Health shit first, then dole out content on the regular. (once a decade or so)ReplyDelete
Too bad the animations didn't work out as a fun side thing for you to do to practice (I cherish the small collection that you made during that time). Fingers crossed and looking forward to anything you come up with.ReplyDelete
You are not a CCC developer, I bet that if you had a team of 10 Kyrieru clones, your games would be at least on the level of any great indie game + they would also be hentai, which makes them even better (Kidding with the hentai being better part. Or am I, heehee).
Will pre-orders from way back for Noaika still be honoured?ReplyDelete
If they're not that would be the greatest Anime Betrayal of 2020.Delete
lol , that outcome sound horrific and interesting at the same time.Delete
KyrieRu said that everyone who preordered Noaika would get all the games released in the meantime for free. And despite Eroico not being a new game (it merely received a big update), the Noaika unlock file works for it too and everyone who preordred Noaika got a copy of Eroico for free.Delete
Do you really think a person who goes above and beyond their commitments in this way would forget about them or decide to steal from their customers... or is this a passive-aggressive way of complaining that development is taking a long time?
If it's the former, your concerns are preposterous. If it's the latter, you should be aware that a single developer working alone on a project of this scale and quality isn't going to poop out a new game every year, and the gaming world is already too full of games that come out before they're ready.
I realize that the secrecy behind Noaika's current state is unsettling, and I'm not entirely sure I fully understand the reasons behind it myself, but as long as we get it eventually, it's all good.
Besides, it's not going to be that much longer now. It was (relatively) close to completion several months ago, a 2017 release is quite plausible.
Personally, I think 2017 is highly unlikely. There's not much point in speculating about it, but I think 2020 is likely. Ky said that he wants more money to finish Noaika so he'll finish and release a small game or 2 to drum up those funds.Delete
We might see small game 1 release in 2017. It depends on how quickly he manages to close the Patreon. I'm thinking we'll see small game 1 in Q1 2018. Small game 2 may happen after Noaika. If it doesn't, we could see it late 2018 or early 2019.
Beyond those games, Noaika itself will take some time to finish I think. Since the soundtrack and sound design is a large part of what needs to be done, the rest of the development time is highly variable. For such a large game OST design and QA will definitely take much linger than his last two titles. I'm expecting a year of work remains to be done until Ky feels Noaika is ready.
Of course this is all based on a mountain of assumptions and those assumptions could be based on misinformation. Regardless, speculation doesn't matter anyways because the games will be done when they're done.
Now you're making me doubt.Delete
I thought the plan was to release smaller games (smallest first) to raise money, and work on Noaika when there were no financial difficulties. Kyrieru said things were good on that front, so I assumed development on Noaika would resume once prior commitments were entirely dealt with.
But if there's another game in the meantime, even a small one, then yes, it's going to slow things down a lot. And let's say QA on Noaika takes longer than I thought, that would extend the time needed to finish it, too.
I get all of Kyrieru's games for free until Noaika is finished, but still... I'd rather see Noaika finished first (as long as it's not rushed) and then pay for the small games, which Kyrieru never seems to price above 5 dollars anyway.
Oh well. I guess time is the real price we have to pay for games of this quality.
First off, concerning pre-orders, Everyone who pre-ordered will;Delete
1. Get Noaika when it's released.
2. Will receive any game I release until then.
3. Can ask for a refund at any time, and will still receive the above regardless.
As for when I will work on Noaika again, the Eroico Re-release took care of two things;
1. it allowed me to buy some things that should help a bit with health issues, such as a new chair and sit-stand desk.
2. allows me to pay for my monthly living expenses comfortably for a while without needing to spend time doing the Patreon. Whenever my health was a problem and I only had so much time, I had to spend it on the Patreon in order to pay for expenses at all.
What it didn't do was cover the debt I have from not releasing anything for so long. The longer I go without paying it off, the more expensive it gets. Even a fraction of a fully released game should pay it off no problem, which is why I want to get that out of the way first. If I pay it off using the profits from Eroico, then I would be back in a position where I'm living month to month, and must work on Patreon animations.
In addition to the above, I don't like the idea of barely getting by, and want to make sure that if I, or someone in my family is in an emergency, that I'm prepared for it. Nobody in my family is particularly well off or in a stable position. There's also the subject of starting a business, which isn't cheap, but will increase the amount of money I make in the long-term.
Ah, so it's all about getting into a stable, secure and strong position from which to develop much more efficiently. That makes sense.Delete
Well then... it's sad that Noaika will remain incomplete for a long time still, but I'll be looking forward to the next "small" game.
That sound like another crisis for you , struggle for your family even when you are weak.Delete
since no one know if you lie or not , so I will use your final product to judge you(so arrogant me?)
lastly , hope you and your family get better soon , I will come check your blog once in a while.
i just wanna see content i don't care what it is, just to justify my reason for checking this blog every day lolReplyDelete
How about inspire him with your own content, maybe it not impossible.Delete
Happy 150th birthday of Canada!ReplyDelete
I know I have a key for the next game coming up, but I will just buy it if i never did, obviously I didn't rebuy Eroico cause I had it already, but I have faith that you are not going to run away with the money...ReplyDelete
Do I believe that you could use a more structured life? yeah, but we all don't know what is going on in your life to help, just because you're trying doesn't mean your'e doing the best things to do.
Stay strong and I will be waiting for your big release.
Hello, i'm very wait new game update.. When can expect an update?ReplyDelete
About Noaika specifically? Probably next year if his current plans holdDelete
Men ! Ganbatte ! I am so impatient for Noaika ! ^_^/ReplyDelete
