Eroico Revision V3

Eroico Update

Download (V4)

New version of the Eroico Revision. (Redone animations, revised CGs, gameplay changes)
Note: Old unlock files still work, and now Noaika pre-order files will work as well. I will be updating DLsite's version soon, though it's codes work with this too.

Changes so far;
- Fixed problem where music doesn't play in ending.
- Added Vsync option (If you had speed problems, try it now)
- Fixed problem where H-content turns back on after reloading the game
- Vampire bugs.
- Debug number during first boss
- Tree boss gets stuck
- Controller problems (At least some of them. Try again if it didn't work before)
- Breakable block doesnt break when boosting
- Added Balance based on difficulty
- Fixed bug where balance resets when restarting
- Added controller button for knockdown
- Changed UI
- Made Invincibility time longer
- Added Demo indicator when unlock files aren't present.
- Other minor stuff

I read all the comments, so I've seen all your reports so far. I havn't fixed some bugs because I've either been unable to reproduce them, or because I can't find a solution. (In the case of screen size issues or zoomed in CGs, for example, I can only reproduce the problems with a weirdly low resolution). Let me know if you find any more, and I appreciate the help so far!

  1. You mentioned the Vsync option, but it seems that it can't be switched, it's just stuck on OFF and you can't switch it back to ON.

Also, I have an issue with the sound, it's "crakeling" and played slower than it should. Never experienced this issue on the pre-update version of Eroico, so I'm not why it's happening. It might be related to the V-sync being off, I don't really know...

Anyway, good job, nice to finaly see the update for Eroico released. I hope the rest of what you've planned will follow somehow. ;)

    1. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFHhhhhhhhhh

How did it go back to not working when it was working befooore.
      As for the sound, dunno.

      Delete
    2. And the sound is "cracking", not "crakeling". I don't even know why I spelled it like that. :P

      Delete
    3. Cause crackling.

Also I just checked, and I can change the Vsnch when testing, but NOT when the exe is exported. Man.

    4. For my sound issue, I believe there is simple way to know about it. Since the pre-update version of Eroico didn't cause me any problem, did you change anything on the way how the SFX and Music are played? Also, does the pre-update Eroico had V-sync forced to ON? If it was the case, well it's probably because it's OFF that it causing me this issue.

      Delete
    5. Original Eroico had it off. Revision had it on. Revision update has it off.

If you delete the config file in the game folder, the option will work once you start it again. You can try testing vsync.

Only difference in sounds are that many of them are normalized. Try turning down the volume, and see if the sound issue persists.

      Delete
    6. Okay, so it's definitly not something due the Vsycn then.

And turning down the volume won't change anything, as the sound is also played slower than it should, and that's probably what is causing the "crakling" I think. Just for information, I have an ASUS Xonar D1 as sound card and the UNi Xonar v1.80 rev.3 driver installed. So, it could be also be an issue with hardware, but it wouldn't explain why the issue doesn't occur with the pre-update version, so... Meh, I guess saying that it's probably an issue with the Game Maker Engine isn't too far from the truth...

Also, another small detail, oddly when I quit the game (via the exit button on the menu), the sound seems to work correctly for a second, just before the game window close. Again, not sure what's going on...

Anyway, don't waste too much of your time with my issue if you don't see what could cause the problem. It's okay, I suppose I just gonna play with game sound muted. :P

      Delete
    7. Also, I think I should add that the game is also running slower than it should (and the V-sync doesn't change anything). I should have specify that before, sorry... I was focused on the sound problem and I completly forgot to mention that.

So, in the end everything is running slower for some reason. And I don't think it's lack of power from my computer as it has an Nvidia GTX 970 and an AMD FX-8320 @4ghz...

      Delete
    8. Sorry for spamming the comment section, but it seems that I have the same issue with your other games too. Kurovadis, Eroico (pre-update) and the Noaika demo are also running very slow (without the crakling sound issue however)... So it's definitly a problem with my setup, not sure what is causing this, but it seems to only occurs on games using Game Maker.

I didn't have this issue when I was on Windows 7 (more than a year ago), so perhaps it's an issue caused by Windows 10 somehow? I don't know... Wouldn't surprise me if it was that in fact. :P

      Delete
    9. It's me again. :P
So, just to give you an update on my issue, I've reinstalled the soundcard drivers and it seems to work now, at least for your other games (Kurovadis, Eroico (pre-update) and the Noaika demo). But I'm still having the issue with the updated Eroico (v4)...

I really don't understand why this is happening, but whatever... I'm just hoping that I will not have the same issue when you'll release Noaika, that would be really annoying if so.

    10. Ideally most of my new games won't have a lot of these problems since they are being developed on newer versions of GM. Sucks that it's not a problem I can easily fix now, though.

      Delete
    11. I'm having this same issue! V 7.6! :(((
I'm running on a beast of a machine (R9 Fury, 144 hz freesync monitor). Don't know if that helps

    12. Hey, same anon here.
So I took out the DLL that unlocks full version, played fine without it in folder as Demo. Then put it back in and my game speeds seem fixed! Hope that helps :)

      Delete
    13. Hmmm....well, the game being unlocked doesn't really do anything actively, so it seems more like it would have been a coincidence.

      Delete
    14. was this ever solved? These games all run at about 10 FPS on my machine if that, it's not a hardware specs problem I promise you. Is it a windows 10 issue? sound driver issue? game maker problem?

  2. Weird thing that's happening which I have no idea how it triggered: I've been attempting a No Death run on Hard mode, and during my first couple attempts at the Desert area I noticed there were now extra blocks to make certain platforming segments easier. I specifically noticed them most prevalent in a room where I could now simply walk through a spinning spike maze rather than having to jump through, and the extremely memorable and awesome red-laser-bouncy-pad-thing-spiked-room-of-death, which now had like half the amount of spikes. I assumed you made these changes between versions intentionally and kept playing. On a later attempt, I reached the Desert, and the blocks were missing, with the sections being nearly the same as pre-update! Was I somehow glitched into playing an easier difficulty's version of the level? I was taking 1/4 a heart damage from enemies, so with regards to damage the game was still acting as if it were Hard mode. It seems only the level layout had been different.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Was this with V3? Before then there was a bug that made it so platform difficulty was not saved, and it would default to easy. Should be fixed in V3 though.

      Delete
    2. Hard mode should be the same as the original, for the most part, while medium and easy have more platforms.

      Delete
    3. It was in V3, yes. And it just happened again in V4. It was after a couple attempts where I died in the forest. I always have been using Slot 1, and also always have been starting a New Game from the title screen.

      Delete
    4. To try and narrow possible causes down I just did an attempt on a cleanly unzipped game, starting a New Game on Hard from File 2, reaching the desert without deaths or resetting the game. The easier difficulty blocks were present.

      Delete
    5. Annnnd to try and narrow it down further, I used a cleanly unzipped game to reach the Desert on slot 2 again, this time intentionally dying and using Continue during the first level (both at the start of the stage and first checkpoint) and the second level (only from the start of the stage). THEN I tried relaunching the game and loading my save file. The platforms were always the easier variant. I'm running out of ideas, the hard mode desert layout is just refusing to appear. D:

      Delete
    6. Well, I can't reproduce it. Use this
      https://mega.nz/#!dxdXTQzK!bFrHLEEN57bKKDTSxKEPeKSILWVAfBqwiTrJb5yMJvY

This version will display the difficulty setting in the top left. If it ever changes mid-game, so you'll know when it happens, if it does.

      Delete
    7. Whoa, nice! Thanks very much, I'll test it out and see if I can figure it out later tonight. :D

      Delete
    8. Okay, so no matter which difficulty I choose when starting a new game, it ALWAYS says 0. Whether I start on Easy, Normal, or Hard. It never changes, it's just always 0. Got to the Desert and the extra platforms were there, so I'm assuming 0 means Easy?

Also, is this something I could potentially alter manually in the save file?

      Delete
    9. Did you use an old save with the new version?

      Delete
    10. I did not, I started from scratch, and did several playthroughs each from fresh, unzipped downloads, all of them having the easy platforms.

With this Test EXE I did manage to get the number in the top left to say 1 by importing one of the V4 saves I'd had from testing last night, but I'm not sure what difficulty that save was supposed to be and it's already been deleted. Importing Hard, Normal, and Easy saves now always results in the Test EXE showing 0 in the top left.

      Delete
    11. ........HAH

Hwelp. Found the problem, and it's really silly. It will only set the difficulty if you press start. I never saw the problem because I've have been testing with the keyboard, and thus using enter.

      Delete
    12. ... yep, that'd do it. xD

I hate myself now, too, I explicitly remember thinking about that during testing and I just forgot in the middle of the run to get around to trying it. @-@

Thanks for all the help, Kyri~ <3 Nothing stopping me from doing a No Death run now!

    1. Just so that you are aware of it, the longer he works on improving his old games the longer it will take for noaika to be finished.
I am not certain to which extend you would want this implemented but doing that would essentially be a lot of work without actual payoff.
Also, I personally feel that that would not fit as well with the "theme" of the game.

Oh yes. If it were me, I'd still be on the forest floor, mindless and drooling, having never gotten past the very first catgirl.

But the Eroico protagonist is a god among men when it comes to not giving in to sexual temptation. He stays zen until the end, and even when he's king of all the monster girls, he's more baffled than anything else. He never makes lewd faces.

Come to think of it, maybe there's something wrong with him...

  7. Is there any way of donating to you outside of patreon? I'm more a fan of giving one time, moderately sized donations when I feel like it. Probably a dumb question you get all the time (feeling tired right now too lazy to see if there's an obvious answer somewhere, lol). Anyhow, you make some of my favourite games of this er... 'genre', and having already bought Eroico a long while ago now, I wouldn't mind giving you some hard earned dosh.

    1. Thanks, and I appreciate it; but I really don't need donations. When I make stuff, I make money, and that's more than enough.

During the Noaika preorders, you could pay more than the base price if you wanted; I never buy the absurdly expensive big titles on Steam, so I was able to give 40 dollars. I don't know if it still works the same way when buying games regularly, but that might be an option.

Eroico might be very short and have limited replay value, it's amazingly fun, cute and well-designed. You never see that kind of quality anywhere else.

If Kyrieru insists on not accepting donations, well... you can always buy multiple copies of the game and gift them to your friends or something. I bought my original copies of Kurovadis and Eroico on DLSite Maniax, I'm thinking of getting a new copy here and giving one of my two unlock files to a friend.

I mean, even though the "upgrade" to the revised version is free, I'd have paid five bucks for it. Or maybe I'd pay five bucks for it specifically because it's free, I don't know.

Either way, I'm taking the Philip J. Fry approach to money here.

  8. Greetings! ^^

Just tested out the new revisited version of the game. I liked the original one a lot and so I'm glad that you upgraded it like this. I totally love your work and your approach in terms of content. You truly work on high standards and that's what I always appreciate in your work. You do a really fine job and I hope you can keep it up while having fun with what you do and the results you produced. I know I will. ^^

    Best regards.

  10. Okay I just checked the demo, got caught on the first catgirl, looked at it for a bit, closed the game, and instabought it! Haha!

I got to this blog by checking games similar to Zell23's game "FOBS" ("Forest Of Blue Skin" I think?). I wasn't super attracted by the animations I saw first, but heard you were working on upgrading the game, so I waited and oh boi was it worth! Can say that's a really good improvement on the animations and sound effects! Good job!

We need more games like this! Haha

  13. Kyieruuuuuu I love youuuu
In all seriousness though, those new animations are amaaazing, especially the axe girl and those lizard soldiers, those are my favorites by far. The bosses's animations were awesome too, the tree boss's stuff is really good, really like the new combat stuff for her too assuming that's new, I haven't played Eroico in a while until this update came out.

In any case, Kyieru, I love you for all the hard work you put into your games you're at the top of the list when it comes to dedication.

  15. Is it normal that a complete save from the old Eroico doesn't work on Eroico RE to unlock all contents from the CG and enemy gallery? Or is it done on purpose?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If the game isn't unlocked it wont display all the CGs. Other than that, I don't know. There might be differences that would stop it from working.

      Delete
    2. It's unlocked, I've copy/pasted the "eroico_unlock.dll" from the old Eroico folder. Oh well, it's not really important, I was just curious about it.

      Delete
    3. prog dll might be the cause, even if you bring over a save with you at the final boss, if you dont have the prog dll, it wont show the other enemies or galleries, because that contains your progress, the save files just contain where you are checkpoint wise

      Hyu

  16. Oh god, the quality! THE QUALITY!! And here I thought Kyrieru's games couldn't get any better. Boy was I WRONG. I'm so glad my unlock file is still here.

Say, Kyrieru, would it be possible to request for GIFs of each H-animation? It would be awesome to have them accessible wherever I go (i.e. in my phone). lol.
    My e-mail address is cestefani.casual@yahoo.com
(It's a long shot request, but hey, a man can hope and dream, can't he?)

    1. Sometimes I take individual requests but this one doesn't really benifit the game itself, so I can't really take the time to do it lol.

    2. I understand. The GIFs may actually even harm the game, now that I think about it. Thanks for replying, though! It's the next best thing to getting the GIFs. :)

I have another question instead: I forgot if I already read this in your blog before, but are you planning to make such masterful revision to Kurovadis as well?

  17. Hey Kyrieu, the new anims are fucking godly, great work.
Just wondering though, the grapples don't seem to do any damage when you lose, any word on perhaps adding damage when losing a grapple, or perhaps making them harder to escape from?

Honest to god I pirated eroico when I first found it, and after both getting this released on the 15th and making the animations twice as good (and getting me to revisit the game for several playthroughs) I've decided to buy it. I'll buy Noaika when that releases too; and maybe throw some extra dosh your way ;)

    2. Simply going to repeat what others have said already. The animation quality compared to the original, is outstanding. And it just adds to what was already a pretty darn fun game, in it's own right.

You truly do deserve more recognition for your work, and i hope that your games sell much better, this time around.

Also, just to confirm I'm not missing something: with 100% of upgrades, max health is 1.75 hearts and there are only 4 upgrade pedestals in the game. Is that correct? Would be silly if I were missing something and marked the game as complete. xD

Impressive. Even if my controller wasn't spamming the "up" button for no reason, making it much harder to play, I think it would take me several days at least to achieve that. The new Forest boss alone would be a huge obstacle, I still can't figure out how she works.

All the 100% completion playthroughs I've seen seem to also be assuming that the two sword upgrades, the two ranged upgrades and the 12 heart pieces are all the available upgrades found in the game. Unless Kyrieru has hidden some secret somewhere, I'm pretty sure you're fine on that front.

  22. If I have any serious criticism it's that the jump animation looks stiff for some reason, and I think it's because the the running animation to the jump animation doesn't look very different from each other. There's clearly a change in the feet, and the downward pose is dramatically different, but that jump pose feels stiff when it's transitioned directly from run to jump.

    1. After alt-tabbing out of the game, it permanently stops listening to controller input.
