*Slams head into desk*

Hello.
Flash.
Randomized sound code still doesn't work.
Chrome, audio distortion. What.
Have to put everything into a movie just to re-orient it.
fFlaSH....

Can't make buttons that toggle...so...sound to represent different states...
x = 10.50?

No.

....

*Slams head into desk*

Finished the actual Hilda animation a long time ago.
Just want  flash to work...
Whhhhhyyyyyy......

*Goes to Tim Hortons*

Insanity aside, for those of you who want to see the animation now, even though there's no sex sounds yet, here it is.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/ra4blsyaz4t7t09/Hilda_nosound_yet.swf?dl=0

(without it's own window it kind of zooms in like crazy, though, unless you re-size the window itself.). So I also put it on the weekly animation page.

  8. I could do it in a half hour in GM -__-
Literally the only reason I want to do it in Flash is so that it can be embedded into a page by anyone, and thus shared around.

  9. Stellar job on the animation as always ^_^

  10. Ahhh, Hilda looks really nice ;3 I'm a little jealous and also inspired, I'm trying to get into much the same things in art but there's something really hard to learn about when to draw outlines and when to use heavy contrast for shading, I don't understand how people can define large things so perfectly with only two colors ;_; It's too hard to visualize that way. You do it so well.

  12. Normally I offer to help but I'm already loaded with a lot of projects. If it's something simple though (which it sounds like) I might be able to take a quick look. I've done flash for a very long time.

    1. Nah, don't worry about it. It's not really something that most AS3 programmers have to deal with, so you'd probably just be in the same situation of trying things until it works.

Basically I need to make it so sounds play with random volume and pitch within a range. A programmer helped out and wrote a script for me in like 3 hours of trying to get it to work, but it ended up having two bugs that make it unusable. He's going to take a look at it tomorrow.

    2. Woah...
AS3? Literally nobody I know uses that for small simple stuff.

  14. If you get too much trouble from flash, you may consider looking into Construct 2. While it's not exactly built for animations, it can export into HTML5 to host on a website, and its pretty programming-lite. I'm not positive if the free license will give you everything you need, but it's good for a lot of stuff and worth checking out.

    1. ....He's already using GM, which exports to HTML5. Flash is easier to spread around.

  15. Do you use GML much in your games? You might consider switching over to developing stuff using Flash or Haxepunk. It's what I did back when I got tired of paying money for Game Maker and wanted to actually learn to program. http://haxepunk.com/ and http://useflashpunk.net/ both have some pretty sweet tutorials to get you up and running stuff. Once you get the hang of it, you don't have to wait on a programmer to fix some issue that doesn't work. Everyone waits on you.

    1. His games are entirely made in GML, and he does it solo. He knows the language.

    2. I can do pretty much everything I could possibly want in GM, and extremely quickly when my circumstances allow for it. With Flash, I can barely do anything, despise the program, and would be severely limited by the software itself. GM has more export options, more support, is more user friendly, and I have 8 years of experience using it. Flash has support for vector graphics, which I dislike, and SWF export, which I only need for these animations. That's about it. It wouldn't be worth it to learn AS3 beyond what I have, which isn't much.

If I ever use something else, it would only be to do what GM can't. In my case, that would be 3d. Eventually, I'll probably learn to use Unity, but I'd still use GM for any 2d development.

  16. I haven't been following the blog for a long time and I don't see any recent posts about it. Was Noaika cancelled? I thought that game was near completion like a year ago?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nope, it hasn't been cancelled. Just changed a lot and still in development, abeit at a aub-optimal pace due to some health issues and my attempts to deal with them. I don't really show anything about it since I prefer to avoid spoilers, but I'll be showing off some screenshots soon since it's been so long.

  18. so, what exactly is going wrong with the flash? random sounds should be fairly simple; and i assume the toggle button is for sound on/off?

  19. Awww, I was planning to suggest Maya Fey for consensual POV. Now I have to come up with something new for her. I thought the Hilda animation would be more Pokemon related and would keep more of her cool design aside from the hair and the hat.

I still love the animation, just so you don't think I'm complaining.

    ReplyDelete
  20. eh, I don't really care too much about the sound, myself. Nice animation, as always. Any idea when you'll put out some new screens for Noaika? I know you've said "soon," but honestly that's what I'm really looking forward to. I don't mean to sound like I'm rushing you or anything as you have some health problems and that's more important.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ky what you proposed to do can be done in the somewhat same effect if you simply save separate versions of the same sound file. Just make different clips of varying pitch and volume and you can trigger each one through an RNG. It's not exactly how you wanted and it's a little heavier but it's simpler to do code-wise and will pull off the same effect. I think it's what you should settle on for now. Then you can get more ambitious later on.

  22. Mr.Kyrieru maybe one of these software could be of use to you.

Spriter pro http://store.steampowered.com/app/332360/ it works with gamemaker.

    toon boom harmony 12 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGGUMuJSyg0

anime studio pro 11 http://my.smithmicro.com/anime-studio-pro.html I hear people compare this to adobe flash but they say it better.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nah,
Spriter is for bone based animation,
Toon Boom is meh. I prefer TVPaint animation. I wouldn't be using either for pixel art.
Anime Studio is mostly for vector and bone based animation. I'm not using Flash for animation, rather I'm only using it because it has an export format that can be easily shared, while having some basic controls. Anime Studio is only for animation.

      Delete
    2. I see. But isn't what you doing is animation?

      Delete
    3. Yeah, but I'm doing pixel art specifically. None of those programs are really meant for it. If I were doing non PA frame by frame animation, I'd probably use TVpaint, which is what I prefer.

Aside from that, I'm not really into vector animation. (Though I have used Anime studio in the past, and it's what I'd use if I did any.)

    4. Ah yeah pixel damn I forgot that what you were aiming for. I heard you can make pixel art in toon boom. But they way the admin at the official site ask you to send them a private email for more detail, and the price yeah it not worth it.

  26. Suggestion: All the girls from the vote stuck to walls in a tentacle lair >_<

I know you can't do that but man... Maybe you could create a stretch goal for rare bigger animation with multiple girls sharing the same predicament. Once per half a year maybe?

  27. Suggestions: Please make your Patreon more obvious. I can't find it at all on your homepage. It's not even in the weekly animations segment. Oh, it would also be a good idea in my opinion to work on the layout of your weekly animations. Don't just slap them to the side. The allignement looks random.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I know it's not that obvious. Basically I mention it in every post where I post a weekly animation. However, since I'm still in "catchup/weekly animations aren't complete with all the options" mode, I wanted to wait until I'm back on track before sticking up the link. Feels like my work isn't up to snuff right now.

As for the layout, depends what you mean. If you mean the button layout, that's one thing. If you mean the animations on the page, then I know. I just haven't really had the time to do a good layout, I'll get to it. when I have the time.

      Delete
    2. That's fair. Just felt like mentioning it. Even if you think that your work isn't where you want it to be yet, other people might think differently. But I get where you are coming from so just include it at your own pace^^

  29. Wow the last animation you make is very low quality and I dont know but for me is better the gif animation you make

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Whether it's a gif or in flash doesn't really have any impact on the quality. Flash is merely a format to show the animation, and not how I make it. Once I'm done playing catch up, there will be Flash and GIF versions of each animation.

And no, last week's animation was not "low quality", but it was "lower" quality. I tried to keep it simple since I was getting used to Aseprite, which I've never used before.
