Getting better. The eye placement is still messing with me, though.

Current method for drawing faces.

Doodled some faces today. I'd say it all sucks, but I'm starting to get the feeling that I'd be saying that every day for a while. The style of the girl on the far right is probably the least terrible.

June 1st
Sketched a bunch of stuff for nearly three hours. Pretty much all of it sucked -__-.
Hopefully things will be a lot different by the end of this game's development.

  1. Is that our new protagonist? Went from blonde back to red? :3c

  2. To me, this actually looks like a guy's face. It really reminds me of Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

  3. She mad.

In any case, I wonder what her ears look like, if they're drooping down that much?

    1. They could be poointy ears, just like the harpies in Eroico

BTW it really looks like Sora XD

  4. I really like this idea. I tend to check your blog everyday, so having daily updates is awesome.

  6. Stop putting yourself down, your art is really nice. You just think its bad because "food" always taste better when you don't have to make it yourself.

    1. It's a bad habit that most, if not all artists have. In this case, Kyrieru is probably just trying to find the right pieces to keep up with the crowd's expectations.
On that note, drawing rows of heads facing different directions might help with your eye placement issue and other things like keeping future outcomes from looking too 2D.

    2. I wouldn't say it's a bad habit. Even normal and healthy.
I can guarantee that not one single artist out there can really truly honestly say from the bottom of their heart that they're satisfied with their art for basically their entire life. That's why they're artists. The healthy and the good ones will find their own coping-mechanisms...because the twisted thing is that the non-artists are benefitting from our suffering and we must all upend the status quo and start getting appreciated and paid and sexsexsex fuck it lets make some hentai *starts rambling

    3. @Maguswaffy: Drawing different angles is actually easier for me. This is basically my way of hopefully getting consistency in style before I move on to other things.

    4. @Kyrieru:

      Can I be blunt/constructive criticism?

      @Maguswaffy:

He may be deciding what shapes to simplify and whatnot to retain design consistency.

    5. @Anon: To be honest, it wouldn't really do much good.

With these sketches, I'm not really trying to do polished artwork, so I don't fix many of the problems that even I see. It's more about repetition and slowly working problems out of the routine gradually, so that eventually I can draw without revisions.

    6. @kyrieru

Fair enough. As an aside, I wanted to comment that I like your rougher work as opposed to the 'finished' product (Eroico comes to mind) sometimes. Do you plan on uploading gestures?

    7. I'll be doing full sketches, soon.

As for my rough work, the thing about Eroico's CGs is that I basically had to do 1-2 a day, so they were very rushed.

    8. Right that explains why the CGs look forced... no offense!

I think your time and energy should be less invested in background detail because some areas, like the nekomimi scene with the tree, had too much evenly spaced detail that it felt like you wanted me to look at the tree instead. : b

  8. Have you thought about trying to sell your games on other Japanese sites? Dlsite is popular, but there are quite a few others out there.

    Getchu
    Gyutto
    Digiket
    Melonbooks
    DMM

  9. I already do, actually. Kurovadis is distributed on those sites through Curious Factory.

  10. The final image is real pretty, this look is really intense ^ ^

  11. Hmmm... Kyrieru I suggest trying a light or dark toned background when drawing digital. It should make drawing far less exhausting for the eyes since you won't be seeing clinical whites and make less subjective judgments in designing.

  12. The art style is very cute, and technically clean (not the contents). I do rather like it, but there is one thing that always feels off to me on your pictures. The eyes seem too far down the head. On actual human faces, the eyes are half way down from the top of the head, and yours seem to be a bit lower then that, giving the impression of giant foreheads. I also must say that I think this practice is really helping you. There is visible improvement from the oldest to the newest art. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up dreading looking at the bottom of this page.

    1. Though, if I was taking real human proportions into account, it wouldn't really be a manga style anymore (when it comes to faces, anyway). That being said, lowering the eyes is a fairly common thing to do.

    2. Yeah it's a deliberate division of the face that Kyrieru has been doing to give it a more 'cute' effect.

It's just a tricky matter of balancing between realism and imagination.

  13. go to www.aztecfalcon.blogspot.com it has instructions to save my own happiness and save billions of animal life per year 6 billion human life per 100 years and quite literally it has a way to feel as much pleasure 100% of the time as it feels pain to get burnt by 20000 degree celsius lava and multiple ways of not dying of an old age heart attack the thing that is in essence a 100% chance of dying

  14. Really like the style and coloring of the one from June 6th, looks steampunk.

  15. oh, some of your drawings are realy cute.
now and then you make some mistakes, for example the shoulders from that girl from june 4th are to....slim? I don't know if that is the right word^^''
also interesting is that you use a box shape for the face/head.
I would have never come up with that idea xD
what's the advantage of using a box shape?

  16. Schedule slip?

    1. Haven't drawn anything worth posting lately, since it's mostly been drawing individual parts of the body I need to improve at. And I've been doing a lot of spritework, so I havn't been drawing as much. Things will speed up again once development is in full swing.

    2. Fair enough, I'm just wondering if I should keep visiting here a part of my daily routine.

    3. Keep visiting. No reason not to. The artwork is fun, but I prefer when he's busy working on the next game. :P
